I'm sick of vampires, zombies, werewolves, and aliens. But I enjoyed Anne Rice's books on vampires many years ago. The movie with Tom Cruise was pretty true to the written story, but considering it was only two hours long, it couldn't cover everything. There were a few things I didn't like about the film. Tom Cruise was not at all my idea of Lestat. As far as I'm concerned, he was terribly miscast. It's too bad Heath Ledger was only fifteen years old in 1994 when the film was made, he would've been perfect as Lestat. As much as I love Antonio Banderas, he was 34 years old when the film was made and cast as Armand, who was a 17-year-old boy. He just didn't fit the bill for that role. However, Brad Pitt was perfectly cast as Louis, and Kirsten Dunst did a fine turn as Claudia. I wish they'd make "The Vampire Lestat" into a film. Who knows, when they get tired of remaking "Interview with a Vampire," maybe they'll get around to it. I won't hold my breath.
I didn't get past the few episodes of the new "Interview with a Vampire" series, it was disappointing. Although the actors were good and it had terrific art direction, I was expecting a better (and more complete) adaptation of the book. Since it was an 8-hour series instead of a 2-hour movie, I figured they'd get it all in (I wanted to see the parts of the story that had to be left out of the film). But they completely rewrote the story (except for the three leading characters), and it's completely NOT Anne Rice's novel.
