What do you do to avoid boredom?

I've always been one to have multiple interests. Now I play my violin, 5 string banjo, 4 string banjo, ukulele, and/or mandolin, I have a huge collection of DVD's I've collected over the years which I've been warching lately. I also still have 3 dvd recorders which I use to record TV programs I want to watch and I also subscribe to a number of streaming services - and of course, there's Lily, my Yorkie, to groom, bath and take for walks Also I've been a big game player - mainly RPGs - FFIV lately.. I'm an amateur artist and paint and draw when I;m in the mood same for knitting, tatting and crocheting. Thinking of knitting some mittens - it was 28 degrees out this am. Those are but a few of the more recent ones. I love learning to do things.

LOL..I get bored witless watching TV>.. and altho' I can knit and crochet , it holds no interest for me..

I tried painting years ago.. not very good.. I'm not a craft person at all tbh.. I wish I was..

If I didn't have OA in my fingers I would take up the guitar...or the Harp...

I would love to be able to crochet, tried really hard, just don’t have the ability

I used to tell my late husband "Never a boring life." We always had something to keep us occupied. And like others here, I continued to keep active. I don't get bored because I am perfectly content reading, writing, teaching, playing and composing music, knitting, cooking, talking on the phone with family, organizing events, browsing SF, watching movies, etc.....

Do you get bored?
Has yet to happen
Too too much around me for that

Ever so often a grandkid or friend's kid will tell me they're bored
Like I'm supposed to entertain them
I ask 'em if they know why
Get a shoulder shrug
I tell 'em because THEY are boring

If they're young enough, I'll get 'em to just sit, right where they are
and look down, into the lawn
ask 'em what they see
'bugs'
'what kind?'
shrug
'That's a yellow sac spider
and that's a black ant
they're gonna meet
....watch'
It's like a whole new world for them
right under their feet

and when they bring 'em into the house
well
that's when the real action starts

My kids used to say, "I'm bored" and I'd be like, "Oh, you must need some work to do, let's see what I can find..." Instant un-boredom! lol

As for myself, along with the things others have mentioned, I like to plan trips (may not go anywhere, but the research is fun).... solitaire (with real cards) is relaxing... whipping up a new recipe or finding a way to use what in the pantry/freezer for something new. Last night I made soup with left-over chicken, greenbeans, cannellini beans, mushrooms and spinach. It will be good today--blustery and rainy.

I don’t remember the last time I was bored.

I’m self employed and still work, not quite full-time and on my own schedule, so that gives some shape to my days.

I enjoy cooking so I spend some time planning and preparing our meals. We have two old dogs and a new not-quite puppy, so daily dog care and walks, plus a very specific training schedule for Remy (the newest addition) takes up time each day. I have hobbies… painting, crafting etc that I’ll pull out on occasion.

I’m very involved with family, both Ron’s kids and grands and my own, and we have a bunch of them, so there’s always babysitting and visits and birthday parties and family get togethers. I read, keep up with social media, play games on my phone, am constantly learning new technology and new things about technology so I can troubleshoot what I’m asked to help with for clients, my husband and friends.

We’re always improving the house and yard. There’s always something to tweak, fix, paint, decorate, build. We take the mustang convertible out for a drive and a meal, hop on the bike and ride around the lake and head to one of our two local biker bars, get snuggled on the couch and watch a movie, or just sit and have a drink and talk talk talk.

I feel like there’s always just a bit too much to do and not quite enough time to do it. Which I love! So no, I never get bored. 🙃

Same here. I hear people talk all the time about how much they love doing it and I can't stand doing crafty things, such a boring ordeal, ugh. I just hate trying to make anything look pretty or even just nice or pleasant; I think it stems from trying to make myself look pretty all those years ago, trying to straighten my hair or deal with acne, etc. and having so little luck at it.

And others have said above that they never get bored since they have lots to do. I have lots to do too but I'm sick of all of it. My problem is that my only hobby is consuming interesting information so reading is my only enjoyment and a few games on the computer.

ha..my twinnie...:D

Me either. I've met a few people in my time who were fond of it and it just seems strange to me.

For myself, 'bed- making' only involves shaking my down comforter out, and fluffing pillows into place .... total time about 30 seconds!
So, it's hard to consider it a chore anyway.

I change my sheet/pillow cases out once a week ... that takes longer. :)

As for boredom, heading outside into the fresh air for a walk takes care of idle time for me ... . works every time
You still have fresh air where you live? I'm envious. Not only do we rarely have fresh air around here (usually smoke from wildfires or these people that like to burn their leaves and fields, ugh), there aren't any sidewalks within 3 miles of me and not only do I prefer to walk on sidewalks, they say it's better for the elderly to have a nice level surface to walk on to prevent falls.
