Car Insurance Increasing? What to do?

My half yearly car insurance is due in December so I checked on line to see what it might be. Found an almost 30%increase. I’ve had no claims, high deductible on the comprehensive, o frills, 20 year old car.
I called customer service and was told that all policies are going up due to substantial increase in car repair costs. Can’t debate and argue with cust svc, the poor souls are too far down the food chain.
Has anyone else had this happen?
Am seriously considering getting rid of the car.vMy driving is less and less and closer to home, no nights. I know my reflexes on pedal and turning my head aren’t very fast any more.
Alternate transportation: a bit from family, Sr Trans, car services, get more things delivered.
How Y’all’s driving and insurance costs going?

Why not start out by pricing out other insurance companies?

Same dilemma here. My car is fairly new though, and I don't want to reduce coverage.
I've checked with other companies, and there isn't much difference ........ so, I renew with increases every six months, bitch a lot, and wait for the day that I won't be driving anymore, and can sell my car.

That day is quickly approaching for me anyway.

Since I switched over to Geico, I don't have that worry anymore. Well, mine did go up $14, but that is all. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than AARP The Hartford. I saved around $460 or $480, when I dropped them as my car insurance company.

My dear friend (70) is about to sell her car because of macular degeneration. She'll hire Ubers when she needs to go further than walking distance.

auto insurance is going up across the nation.....your insurance people are right...inability to find parts...cost of them if they can...on and on...i hope you can solve the dilemma of not having a car

Look for another insurance. I had The Hartford and switched to Allstate and saved a few hundred, but it will creep up and up so I'll go shopping again.

I try to switch my auto insurance at least every 2 years to avoid the rate creep. When the auto's value is less that 5K, I drop comp/collision. I pay my bill in full every 6 months avoiding the finance fees. ($3+). You're the 'in charge' customer longevity/loyalty doesn't mean squat to the insurance companies.

I agree and use the same approach.

Have you considered dropping the comprehensive on a 20 year old car?
For many that is the best thing to do. I only carry liability on my cars, and it costs a whole lot less. A fraction of what it would otherwise. My insurance agent is constantly trying to get me to add comprehensive but I won't.

If you can afford to replace your car should it be totaled then there is no reason to carry comprehensive, no matter the car's age or value.

Well you can thank politicians and insurance companies they collude with for high rates. Here in California there are an estimated 5 million drivers (16%) without insurance despite that being illegal with fines possible. Those without insurance are also often illegal aliens. If an uninsured motorist has some wealth especially real estate, large possessions, or a job a court might place liens against, they are likely to be sued. But because doing so against illegals and or poor won't generate any money for lawyers they go after, instead you and I tax paying good citizens their easier targets.

And because court judges are nominated and controlled by their !@#$ politician lawyer educated and employed masters that allow open borders and the rest of that unfair policy, if they are brought before courts, little happens. Not even sent to jail unless death, major injuries, or drunk. Years ago courts took their driver's licenses, vehicle registration, or vehicles away but then advocates kept complaining they wouldn't be able to work and support their illegal or poor families blah blah blah. That of course just encouraged more to ignore the laws that lawyers couldn't get at to do the same. So our state is overrun by bad drivers that don't even fear causing accidents beyond the inconvenience of damaging their vehicles.

Although additional uninsured motorist insurance does not add much to policy costs, what most good citizens don't understand is the main premiums have been "adjusted" to higher levels overall to hide how bad it really is. I've over 5 decades in the state, NEVER caused an accident, yet have been skewered for thousands yearly due to the unfair system controlled by these lawyer politician financial blood suckers.

I have Geico. I’ve made comparison calls in the past and Geico still came out better.
Thanks for the suggestions about the Comprehensive. I’ll look at that agin. If it were totaled I wouldn’t be replacing it.
I believe that on a 20 year old car, comprehensive ins. will pay only what the car is worth, and that's what -$1.50? You may be paying more in insurance than you'll ever get back from your car being totaled. I'd check that out.

I filled out one of those car insurance ads claiming I could save over $600.00 a year if I switched insurance carriers. When the agent called with the quote he wanted some additional info to save me money. He offered life & home insurance as a package along with the car insurance. Don't need life insurance so I asked what home & car quote was.

He was proud to offer $2800.00 over what I presently pay. I asked him if he was serious, he said yes. I said no thanks. He asked why. I told him there was no savings with that quote.

I love having a car, even though I hardly ever drive it. Car insurance is my only frivolous expense.

I believe the time is coming when I'll have to give up my car, whether for health reasons, the demise of the car, or some other reason. Looking at the bright side, I'll save all that insurance money.

I hate the whole idea of insurance, but never mind....

Have you considered dropping the comprehensive on a 20 year old car? Do you know the cash value of your car if it were totaled?
How much would the insurance pay you based on it's value. If you don't do much driving I might consider liability only.

Yup

Liability only for me

This. Ins companies really hate comp on cars that old and will price you out. And no, you wouldn't get much if you totaled it.

I drive less than 5 miles a week if that. my car is 2008 and only has 40M miles. It already had 20M when we bought it from my husbands aunts estate when she passed in 2009, My job was only 2 miles from home. So I only put 20 to 25 miles a week. Everything I need is within a couple of miles from the house. I do regular proactive maintenance on it, I do not wait, I have belts and filters replaced before there is a problem. Just because I don't don't drive it much does not mean that belts do not dry out with age,, filters suck up everything and that can hurt your engine,.

I have not had an accident but a lady hit the car in a doctors parking lot after my hip replacement in April of 2021. I was not driving, my son took me for my check up. We were just coming out to the car when she did it, trying to park next to my car. I was afraid because the age of the car they would total it, but they choose to fix it. I am sure my car was cheap to fix compared to her highend BMW LOL. I hope this car will be my last!!!!

I have GEICO and they are the cheaper. It went up last year to 73/month. However, it would cost much more to take Uber. I only use a half tank of gas a month. Even though my car is 14 years old I still have comprehensive because it’s still worth 5k and wouldn’t save me a lot of money to get rid of it. I have checked.

I have often thought of dropping collision but it's like walking around with a sign on your back saying "kick me", only it's "hit me".

I only fill the tank about 4 times a year. The gas prices have no impact for me, thank God!

Thank the folks in the White House for inflation. It is also in the grocery store and the gas station.
