awww.. memories of Lesley, Peter, and the legend that was John knoakes ... from our childhood ...and I know that Blue Peter garden at the studios so well... TV centre is no more and the garden has been removed to somewhere else...

The first one that I saw, about late 1980's and I just cannot find a picture of it, looked like a landline phone, the battery was the size of a car's small battery. It was remote from the phone, in a type of satchel with the handset sitting in a cradle atop. It really did look like a landline phone.

The most iconic of phones though has got to be the one that got dubbed: "The Brick!"

In 1977 I was working for the Forest Service and got pulled into helping in the communications tent on a large forest fire in northern California. We had something like this, it was more of a radio that we called an operator on, gave a number and then got connected. I thought it was amazing.

I remember in 1967 seeing a Rolls Royce with what looked a ordinary desk top phone sitting on the rear seat armrest. It had an
antenna on the trunk that was unusual.

That was our first one! I think I still have it somewhere, probably worth a chunk of change to a collector.

The first car phone-1946
