PayPal scammers out in full force

If any company or government agency contacts you with a real looking phone number, text, phone call or snail mail and you have any doubt especially about unknown business or issues go to the business or government website and look for their customer service number or the number of the agency that allegedly contacted you.

You manually punch in a phone number you got from a different credible source. If a credit card issue your monthly bill by snail mail or online has contact numbers. Most government agencies have a list of phone numbers. If you have an old phone book use that. Verify any numbers.

Paypal scammers are sending me VERY realistic looking emails with a scam phone number for the help desk. Do not respond to these
if you get a mail purporting to be from Paypal.. do not click on any links at all.. just send the whole email including the headers to spoof@Paypal.com.. they will almost immediately reply and confirm or deny that it's a fake..

However particualrly at this time of year be very careful Scammers up their game now, knowing people are spending more than they usually would, and are relying on people not to be so vigilant.. so it's imperative that you check and double check any mails purporting to be from any financial company.. Banks, Paypal.. anywhere you might have an account, but also online shopping.. remember Amazon.. et al.. scammers will imitate ( Phish..or phishing).. almost identical copies of mails from online businesses.. telling you a parcel had to be returned that they tried to deliver ..etc, lots of various types of mails.. and ask you to click on a link.. to have it redelivered.. or to collect a refund.. Don't do it!!

Simply go to your Banks website..or your account with a business, .. and check if there's anything there that says you've won money..or due a refund.. and if there isn't delete and block the mail... never ever reply to them either.. because then they'll know they've got a Live Bait..

I don't have a VISA charge card but often receive a phone call reporting unusual charges of $400 and $200 on my Visa Charge Card. I always press "8" to talk to a real person (who is in India). One of my Indian friends gave me a list of "Indian Swear words" which I read off. These annoying calls stopped.

I have never used paypal. Not interested in getting it. Don't care what happens to Twitter or Facebook as I never use them. Paypal is no pal of mine!

The scary thing about these are how real they look. They must use a sort of cut and paste feature to create the invoice. All looks authentic except the phone number to dispute the transaction. I received two, one was a request for payment and the other said I had paid (different invoice and vendor). I never have had a paypal account…but have paid for something using paypal in 2019. I usually look for the usual give away signs of a scam…this one way more disturbing because I had just purchased an item form a vendor using a card. Coincidence.

Had Paypal and used it since it was Xdotcom. never an issue. Can't blame paypal for scammers.
Heck, so far this year, I've won...
a golf cart from Walmart.
a new Le Creuset from Kohls
a free gift from Home Depot
a free gift from Lowes
A new Dewalt tool set from someone (can't remember who)
and on and on.

I tried Paypal when it first appeared, but haven't used it in over ten years. Something about it makes me leery...

Thanks for the info. I have paypal but have it linked to a second checking account with my bank. They allow more than one free checking account. I may leave a few hundred in that account and add when it gets low. It's useful for online shopping.
