Toxic levels in her home put family at risk, say experts​

A woman in Minnesota lost part of her vision and inadvertently put her entire household at risk of mercury poisoning, most likely from using beauty products containing high levels of the toxic chemical, according to a case report shared exclusively with CNN.
The report, shared by Dr. Erin Batdorff with the Minnesota Poison Control System, details the extensive symptoms experienced by the woman, also a mother, and how home visits conducted by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) found high levels of mercury in her children's bedrooms, bedding, household towels and laundry area.

I read that whole, lengthy article and couldn't find the names of these products which would have been useful. I used a skin whitening product for about a year, trying to fade a patch on one cheek that was slightly darker than the rest of my face. It only succeeded in making a white stripe down the middle which was worse than the original situation, but I never guessed it might be dangerous. The CNN point seems to be all about racism, buy many women use these products just to even their skin tone or for cases of chloasma.
 
I switched to natural creams and make up years ago. I hope they are what they say. I don't use much face powder lately since covid. I can only imagine what might be in some of these products. I've heard the ones from years ago had all kinds of junk.
 

This is interesting. My Grandmother, my Mother and all four of my Aunts went blind in their late 70's/ early 80's.
But, They all used Pond's cold cream nightly since they were young girls.
They all lived way into their 90's and had NO wrinkles!
But, I always wondered if the cold cream had something to do with their loss of vision.
They didn't have FDA inspections back then.
Do you think that could be a possibility?

@Gaer, this struck a chord with me. I have a good friend who is maybe 70 (not sure of her exact age) who has beautiful skin. I asked her what she uses and she said she has always used Pond's and nothing else on her skin. Over the past ten years or so, she's had terrible issues with her vision. The list is long and includes several surgeries. I hadn't thought that there might be a connection between the ingredients in a skin cream and her vision issues but who knows?
