Why do some TV channels run the same shows over and over?

Movie and TV marathons seem to becoming popular. I don't mind that they are aired, but over and over, especially this time of year. With so many Christmas movies and specials to be seen, why run a "Home Alone", "Elf" or "National Lampoon Christmas Vacation" seemingly endlessly?

If I had a dollar for every time I saw the 2 Home Alone movies and A Christmas Story (1983).............

The app Pluto actually has TV channels dedicated to single old shows. For example there is a Love Boat Channel, Perry Mason Channel, Gunsmoke Channel, etc. It's probably cheap to get the rights to air those shows and there are probably some Boomers who watch those channels everyday.

Some people like to watch the same shows again and again. I guess there are enough of them to make it pay.
No, ones like me would like to see some new stuff more often than the old stuff. Unfortunately, the new stuff mostly is of such violence or boring soft porn that they are unwatchable. To boot, the newer generation of actors are empty shells with no persona at all. All they do is remember the lines, their camera position, etc. They are totally dull, and the screenwriting is near that of preadolescence.

Christmas Vacation is one I can watch over and over or just have on the TV. That logging truck scene at the beginning is one of the best move scenes ever.

But I agree, it's the same over and over. One of my favorites is Trading Places, but they won't show that on TV anymore I understand.

It's called brain washing. I can still sing jingles from the 1950s. I too have been brain washed before I ever saw "Manchurian Candidate." Cable TV is a great source of brain washing. Watch it for 12 hours straight and you too will walk around and act like a zombie!

That's why I have been cutting the cord. Same old stuff over and over and much of it I didn't care for 50 years ago so I sure don't want to keep watching it now. Of course they do it because it is cheap and I was really feeling ripped off by that satellite company that kept upping the bill every year with no improvement in programming.

And while I am ranting, why is local PBS airing the Lawrence Welk show? My grandparents generation liked that show and I am 71. Sheesh..............
