No Christmas service at church

The pastor announced at Bible study yesterday. The church board decided that since Christmas is on Sunday this year and there will be a Christmas eve service anyway, it would be redundant to have a Christmas morning service. Besides they can save venue rental that way.
So the $$$ come before celebrating his Savior's birth?

He's a money grubbing swine.

I'm an atheist, but even I say "Merry Christmas" and respect the honesty and incredible moral strength of that Guy they nailed to that cross. A Guy whose legs they had to break, plus ram a spear into his heart in order to shut him up.

I do remember some of that Guy's words, especially those about going into your own closet to pray. But those money grabbing preacher bums - of any religion, will never mention those words. Words that clearly state buying those money grubbers their fancy cars and high scale living isn't necessary. This god they speak of will still hear you in your own closet without any help from them.

You might notice I capitalized the first letter of that Guy's name. It's called respect. He deserves that even from an atheist for the price he paid in an effort to make the world a better place.

WE have morning and evening sessions.. and both are on Zoom as well.. so if there was a reason ..say our current heavy snow.. and no-one could get to church physically ..it'll all be online

To be fair, it wasn't the pastor's decision - it was the church board's. In fact, the pastor seemed very disappointed by it.
It's still true what I commented about most pastors, etc.

So, tell me, of what religious persuasion are those sitting on the church's board?

Christians?

If so, they also are $$$ greedy phonies who hold the $$$ more important that their savior's birthday.

No matter how you spin it, that's it. The $$$ RULES! Even over Jesus.

if you are a small church, maybe the board knows that there is not enough money to rent twice in one week. say what you want money keeps the light on and the doors open. We are a church of about 130 and I watch the budget close and it doesn't have a lot of wiggle room, and that is with a paid off building.

I remember once as a child being made to go to church on Christmas day because it was on a Sunday. I hated that - spoiling Christmas just so the adults could dress up and wear fancy hats. When we moved here we remembered what Scotland was like in the 50's & 60's and Mrs. L said that maybe we should look in at Christmas & Easter, just to 'fit in'. No way - 100 years ago, there were two well attended churches (mainly Presbyterian) but now the churches are derelict and nobody here cares a jot about religion. That suits us fine.

I guess it is still nice that they have the Christmas Eve service. The pastor, music people and others have family gatherings too so I can understand. Our church is having a Friday evening service consisting of mostly singing carols and a short message - we will probably go. No Saturday service, but we will have a Sunday service however.

The Christmas Eve service has always seemed a solemn, yet warming open worship for many of us.
It is an alternative for those with children, guests, visiting family who wouldn't otherwise attend a Christmas Day service.

I think anytime voices come together to sing praises to the Holy Being, is a wonderous thing.
But,
This value of a loving consciousness should be lived every waking moment, not just on a holiday.

My answer was specifically for this thread, regarding Christmas services at church, and saving money if that church is rented.

Didn't mean to anger you. I was agreeing with you.
Although I personally don't attend a church, I think it's a nice thing to keep God in the minds.
