A huge aquarium exploded inside a German hotel today, injuring two people and filling the lobby with 1,500 fish and a million litres of water.

The 46ft-high tank, which is located in the foyer of the Radisson Blu hotel in central Berlin, burst at around 5.50am.

The incident at the AquaDom aquarium left two people suffering injuries from glass shards and caused 'incredible maritime damage', German police said.

The explosion filled the hotel lobby with over a million litres of water and 1,500 tropical fish. The leaking water reached the outside of the complex, prompting police to close a nearby street.

Wow!

A 46-ft high column of water generates a fair amount of pressure, but clearly something was wrong. Either in the original engineering or maintenance since... Glad there were not more injured.
Stunning. They say 1,000 metric tons of water. The only mention to a possible cause is the temperature really started to drop. If certain parts of the tank cooled too fast a contraction of parts or structure? They think it's not on purpose. I can't believe there isn't video or there are not cameras in that area.

Well..... I know that some of you fine folks won't agree with me, but......

That thing was one enormous eyesore, now that it's gone, they can replace it with something sensible...... like a dinasaur sculpture.... I'd be happy to pose for the artist.
😊
