Do You Need Medicines to Help You Function, Stop Pain, to Feel Better and How's That Working For You?

Sometimes the dose needs to be increase for a mood stabilizer. Glad what you have work for you. I take Prozac, Risperidone and Gabapentin for a mood stabilizer and not for pain. 300 mg 2 times a day and 500 mg at bedtime. My doctor told me some people require 900 mg. 3 times per day.
I feel sometimes that if I didn't have trigeminal neuralgia (facial pain) I could do without the mental meds. I take tegretol and dilantin for that as well as a mild narcotic. The TN pain is always there but it is at a level I can ignore. Until you have severe pain, mental or physical, you can't imagine having to depend upon medications to be able to function. I am thankful there is something that works.

I have suffered from Facial Neuralgia on and off since I was in my early 20's.. the pain can be excruciating when it's at it's worst which it was for me for 3 solid years ..when I first got it. I call it my missing years because I was given Opiates to treat the pain.. because they didn't know what was causing it, and they had no name for it.. ..to deal with it.. so I was only half in this world for most of my early 20's..

In the last 5 or 6 years the Neuralgia has returned.. not ( thank God) as bad as it was .. but it's constant .. and painful in the one side of my jaw and behind my ear. I have like you.. to take Tegretol 200mg..... and I see a consultant twice a year.( just seen him 3 weeks ago) and they check nothing sisnister is going on, and that the Tegretol is doing its job (I'm not prescribed anything else) .. It's been over 18 months since I had an MRI so the consultant has called for me to have another one.. Goodness knows how long that will be with all the long waiting lists, but we'll see.

I'm sorry you suffer with this too.. the Pain of Trigeminal Neuralgia is excruciating, but not something that non medical people take seriously.. because they can;t see where your pain is

Ditto for me on having TN, hollydolly. Such a very long time to have had it. Please PM me if you'd like to chat.
I take carbamazipine, (gen. Tegratol) also.

Oh No..I'm sorry you have it too Liberty.. 🤗 . it's a horror isn't it?.. fortunately mine is under control.. altho' the pain is there all the time, it's a kind of muted pain, an ache and burning type of pain.. which gives me almost constant earache as well as at the sight of the pain which is the back of my jaw... ..fortunately not the screaming pain which makes you lose your mind without the tegretol..

I take doctor prescribed meds for blood pressure, thyroid, cholesterol and pain, although I don't think the pain meds do much.

I am no stranger to severe pain. At times I get severe pain in the side of my face along with stabbing pain in my ear. It comes and goes and when I have it it lasts forever it seems. I have never seen a doctor for it.

I also have had severe neck, upper and lower back pain and took hydrocodone for years and then I got several nerve block shots that helped. Now I am dealing with neck and shoulder pain and should see my Orthopedic doctor. I also have bad upper arms pain and I don't know what is causing it .

During my child bearing years I often had severe pelvic pain. Since I went through menopause I don't have it anymore, thank God.

I have also suffered with depression and PTSD since I was very young. The medicines I take now help but there is no cure.
