Incredibly only one casualty...

One person was killed on Wednesday when more than 200 vehicles were involved in a pile-up on a bridge in the Chinese city of Zhengzhou in heavy fog, rescuers and the CCTV state broadcaster reported.

Cars and trucks could be seen crumpled and piled on top of each other on the Zhengxin Huanghe bridge in the country's central Henan province in pictures and videos posted on social media.

Another video shared on social media shows a car with a large hole in its smashed windscreen. Pedestrians are seen wandering around in front of smoking vehicles on the bridge.

Other footage shows several cars badly damaged, with one completely caved in at the front.

Many of the injured were trapped in their vehicles and the fire department sent 11 fire trucks and 66 fire rescue personnel to help, state media reported.

Visibility in many areas was less than 500 metres on Wednesday morning and down to 200 metres at times, the meteorological service said.

Rescuers said more than 200 vehicles had slammed into each other,

I always wonder how that many cars can possibly collide unless there is ice and they slide into each other.

There are just too many people on this planet. Things like this will become more and more common.
Depends if you can get them out of their cars, or not. London Underground, known colloquially as, The Tube, handles up to five million passenger journeys a day. At peak times, there are more than 543 trains whizzing around the Capital. When the speed of getting to and from is more important than the creature comforts of the car then public transport will, once more, come into it's own.

OMG...how awful ! @chic A couple of decades ago, my son was in a multi car pile up but it was coming off an exit. There was black ice and there was no way he could stop, especially since the exit slopes down a bit. Thank God he wasn't injured. I forgot how many cars were involved by no where near 100 even.

I've seen it with ice too. The car just slides and there is nothing anyone can do. :(
