Any Trekkers Out There?

Do you have a favorite series, episode, character or movie? Me n' my late wife, Sue used to be pretty big fans, beginning with the original series way back when we were dating. So much so that we named 4 pets after Star Trek characters: First, we had a cat, "Tiberius". Then, another cat, "T.J." (Tiberius Junior), a cockatiel, "Seven-of-Nine" and our present cat, "Commander Chakotay of the Starship Voyageur". Personally, I couldn't watch the series, "Enterprise" because it totally messed up the continuity of the whole franchise! For one thing, that particular Enterprise, or it's captain should never have existed in the first place.

I watched the original series in the 60s. Pretty camp but cool.

My sister watched a couple of the later series, but they didn't really capture my attention.

It's kinda cool to watch episodes of the old series ... with the corny special effects, alien costumes and William Shatner's over-acting! There were still a couple episodes which stood out from the others: City on the Edge of Forever, with a young Joan Collins, for example:

Hello, and welcome again. :)

Hello, n' thanks again, eh? Welp, there are a lotta continuity issues with the Star Trek universe, but in re: "Enterprise", the FIRST starship Enterprise, was the one commanded in the (Bumheads) pilot by Christopher Pike, with a very different looking "Vulcanian" Mr. Spock, and then commanded in the original series, by James Tiberius Kirk. The series, "Enterprise" is set in pre-Kirkian times, and presumes the existence of an earlier version of the starship, commanded by Jonathan Archer. Nowhere in any of the other series, or movies for that matter, is Jonathan Archer mentioned as the first commander of a pre-Chris Pike n' pre-Kirk Enterprise. N' DAT'S da name o' dat TUNA! 😊

I'm not bothered by the lack of mention of an ealier version of the Enterprise. The original series does not imply that the Enterprise featured in that series in the only or first one of that name, so that's not really an issue. Technically, I believe there is an even earlier Enterprise and captain in the animated series, before Pike.

As far as differentiation in Vulcan looks, eh, the "alien" species have all changed quite a lot over the various series' and movies, the Klingons being the most obvious example. - On that note, I am particularly fond of the development of the Andorians in the Enterpise Series.

We all have our "bugs" about the different series and movies (my son and I have had a few discussions on this subject ;), and that's what makes discussing them fun. Personally, I am annoyed with Discovery (which I cannot watch) because of the retroactive change in Spock's timeline.

Yebbut ... mebbe the original series din't imply it's Enterprise to be the first, but I remember a scene on TNG, in Picard's ready room ... seeing on his wall, or on top of his ready cabinet, scale models or wall plaques or summink, with representations of all ships named Enterprise, n' the one directly preceding Kirk's, was the Aircraft Carrier bearing the same name.

Never watched the animated series, nor Discovery. But the latest movies have everybody starting all over again in a whole gnu timeline! I can't discuss intelligently however, wot added damage either of those series might've also done to the continuity. Then there're a whole whack of novels out there, one of which I recall, purports that Spock had/has a son.

N' another thing ... they mis-named Data! He should've bin called, "Datum"!

I always heard Star Trek fans referred to as "Trekkies" ... but what the heck. :)
I've always bin just fine with "Trekkie", but the story goes some Trekkies got their noses outta joint, thinking it sounded juvenile or summink, n' started a movement to change it to "Trekkers". But to this very day, either will suffice. And anyway, if you go to a Star Trek Convention, it's impossible to tell Trekkie from Trekker inside them ridiculous costumes! :D

Yes, they would not have been planning the series, "Enterprise" during production of NG, so Archer's Enterprise would not be represented.
Also, Pike was the first captain of the Federation Star Ship, Enterprise. The Enterprise captained by Archer predated the Federation and so was simply, "The Enterprise," an Earth ship.

Am I the last person on the planet who has never seen Enterprise, no star ship, Star Trek, whatever. Honestly, I know of it. I have seen the stills, there's the the one with pointy ears, but have never seen the show.

Yebbut #1, I said already Pike was the first captain. N' Yebbut #2, why did "Enterprise" have to pre-date any of the other series in da foist place? They threw everything outta whack ... they shoulda THUNK of that, n' it drives (used to drive) me blithering crazy! BLITHERING, I TELL YA! o_O N' (imho :)) it don't matter if it predates the Federation. It should still be in the history books as the first starship Enterprise.

Over to yinz ... 😊

That's simply because you have had other interests. I once was at a bar in Iowa, talking with a coworker about computers, after 15 min explaining some basics, she said "I didn't understand a thing you said"

I then visited their home (she was involved with another worker) and showed her, she was very unimpressed. I wasn't mad or ticked, she had "Her world" and I had mine.

I know nothing of medical procedures, my older sister did, I know nothing of computer chip making, my BIL does. My older sister knows more about 3-D printing then I ever could, but that's her job.

It's not important to know anything about "Star Trek' unless you were a major fan. As you're not interested, then you have (as we've been told by our parents) "Better things to do"

Amen, eh? ;)
