I sure am having fun (YouTube videos)

A Quiet American
I’ve really enjoyed music “reaction” videos recently, especially where young(er) people are reacting to older music or groups, such as The Righteous Brothers, The BeeGees, Leslie Gore (“You don’t Own Me”) or Tom Jones…. OR they are doing respectful covers of some of the great songs; I especially enjoyed this cover for Jim Croce’s “Operator”—
.

It’s nice to see younger people enjoy (be BLOWN AWAY by) and express appreciation for the lyricism, talent, and range of these great artists from the 60’s, 70’s, etc.

I enjoy the reaction videos also. There are some songs covered that I find hard to believe thy have never heard before.

Or they’ve *heard* the song in commercials/movies but didn’t realize the source material…. ”Staying Alive” with the BeeGees was like that.

Oh, I forgot some of the young guitarists/band members reviewing the likes of Glen Campbell or Roy Clark’s guitar playing (and in R. Clark’s case, banjo and fiddle) and being totally blown away by their talent. Several folks have mentioned in comments watching them on Hee Haw and not having any idea at the level of talent they were watching. Glen Campbell was so talented. His music even helped him when he developed Alzheimer’s. Music is truly magical and universal.

Found some really cool covers for Beach Boy songs. (y)

Born in California, The Beach Boys are one of my all-time fave bands! Brian Wilson is an absolute musical genius! He recorded an album (I think it was early 2000s) called Gershwin Reimagined and he put a Beach Boys “twist” on many of Gershwin’s great songs, all while keeping the integrity of the original…. He grew up listening to Gershwin and inspired by him. One or two of the songs on the album are actually *unfinished* compositions by Gershwin that the family asked him to finish as part of this album— that right there is respect!

This is another knowledgeable young(er) guy—Fil— who analyses music from a more technical angle (being a professional guitarist and band member himself) and brings a lot of background knowledge to the table. In this clip, his explanation of the financial end of the music industry was eye-opening. Also, his discussion of Jim Croce’s technique, singing and ability to tell such a touching story in such a short space was lovely.

I like these young men who review older songs; haven't been watching 'em much lately since what they've been reviewing recently are songs only about 10 years old (which aren't old to me, lol :ROFLMAO: ); anyway, here's their review of "Jolene" by Dolly Parton, done about 2 years ago. (I looked but couldn't find their review of a Patti Paige song; kinda cute, they not only liked the song, when they saw her pic, 1 said, "Ooh, she was a pretty thing, wasn't she?"; they did that one more than 2 years ago and maybe they have to remove older vids, they do a lot of vids.)

Had Jim been 22, that's what he'd probably have sounded like. Give that kid 12 more years and he'd probably sound just like him.

Still about YouTube videos but changing from music to renovation/real estate, I have a couple faves... From the US, my fave renovators are Ben and Erin; I love how they go into the history of the homes and try to keep its character (not just a cookie-cutter/minimal/modern design). From UK, I love George Clarke--he's so enthusiastic and fun but also good at communicating the architectural details and design facts.

Any favorites you want to share?

I love Ben and Erin Napier from Laurel, MS and Dave and Jenny Marrs from Bentonville, AR. Used to love Chip and Joanna Gaines, but they have made it to the big time and established their own channel.

I LOVE them! Especially the one who sits (facing) left. He gets the stank face when he is really feeling something. :D They are the first YouTubers I subscribed to. I also love that they listen to and highly appreciate all types of music. I got the biggest kick out of them reviewing Every Little Step by Bobby Brown. I happen to love that song too. Bobby is workin' it in this video.

@CinnamonSugar I'm loving YouTube. Not only have I found and made playlists of all my 45s, I can comfortably sit at home and watch concerts by my favorite artists...for free. :D Using YouTube I get to see what some of the artists I listen to from back in the day look like.

Speaking of young people covering older music, my cousin Daniel, who was born and raised in Germany, rode with us from Jersey to Myrtle Beach S.C. for our family reunion in 2015 and spent time at our various events. Non of us, not even his grandmother. had a clue that he aspired to be a singer. She found out when he was selected to be on The Voice, Germany and sent me the cute video of how he found out. I wish I still had it. He was working on the train when a show agent pretended to be a passenger who needed help and sprung it on him. He was in his early 20's at the time. Here he is singing Fever. His grandmother, mom and half brother are shown backstage. Daniel has other videos up that show he prefers the older, classic tunes. @Pecos @Pinky @Pink Biz @MarkinPhx @dobielvr

This is one of the many YouTube subjects I enjoy too....my two favorites are Martijn Doolaard and Trent and Allie.
I recently received notice that YouTube videos will soon be subscription only with a monthly fee of $20, (can't remember exact amt) I'm not complaining, because I love YouTube and all it offers.

Bumping thread with the new vlog series to which I've subscribed... Ben Maton, organist. All his videos are wonderful but today's was extra special. He went to St. George's church in Damerham... Mention was made of The New Forest @horseless carriage. Is this a town with which you are familiar.?

As always, beautiful old (some parts more than 900 years old) church with a lovely organ on which he played Byrd and Handel. He also went out into the church yard (which was a carpet of snowdrops) and read Wordsworth. The way he edits his vlogs with outside scenery, architecture, and the inside of the churches is just so lovely... I feel like I've been there.
