Weren't we supposed to be driving these by now?

There was also supposed to be a central power hub in each home, for each appliance to connect remotely. An end to electric cables and plugs. What happened to that idea?

Yes I read it in the New York Times
That was on the stands today
It said that dreams were out of fashion
We'll hear no more empty promises
There'll be no more wasted passions
To clutter up our play

It really was a good sign
The words went on to say
It shows that we are growing up
In oh so many healthy ways
And I told myself this is
Exactly where I'm at
But I don't much like thinking about that

Harry Chapin

In addition to things that we were supposed to have, there were things that we were supposed to do that we haven’t done. I can remember reading school library books in the early 60’s that confidently predicted that we’d have manned explorations of the inner planets by the 1990’s. Now I’ll be lucky if we get to Mars during my lifetime.

Predictions of the future have tended to be wildly optimistic. I expected flying cars and planetary travel. Instead, I’ve been given cell phones and Facebook. Where do I get my refund? 📱

I dislike the media playing god and predicting the future. I live in Canada. An X number of year ago, the media was telling us that everyone is going to retire at 55 so that they can travel, spend time with families and have time for hobbies.

A few years rolled by and then the media is telling us that we have to keep working. The pension plans are going to bust! There is no money left over for retirement at 55.

Now we have the "Human Rights" issue in Canada. It says that all Canadians have the "right" to keep working as long as they want to. Even into their 80s? Can you imagine an 80 year old working on the Highways? LOL

If the truth be known, many here in Canada are working well beyond the age of 65 because they have to. Either they have no pension or they can't afford to buy groceries. Canada may be the "land of milk and honey" to some but if you don't have a good pension from the government or hydro, you are gonna end up eating beans or cat/dog food until the day you croak! Canada is frozen over for 6 months of the year and the cost of living is among the highest in the world. Sad but true!

"We are living in the future
I'll tell you how I know
I read it in the paper
Fifteen years ago
We're all driving rocket ships
And talking with our minds
And wearing turquoise jewelry
And standing in soup lines
We are standing in soup lines"

John Prine
At least he got the soup lines right.

People can't even drive on roads, no way I'd want to see flying cars!
We're getting closer to the time when we don't have to drive anywhere for anything, anymore.
