Well, Is it rude for a guest who is spending the night to sleep in till anytime after 10am?

Well, everyone has different sleep routines. I'm a night owl who usually goes to bed around 2 a.m. and sleeps until 10 a.m. If I'm staying overnight at a friend's place, I'll try to get up when they do, as long as it's not before 8 a.m. Also, if the friend has something planned the next day that requires an early start, I like to be considerate and get up earlier. Most of my friends know I hate early mornings, so they give me some leeway. LOL

I am with @bowmore, I prefer to stay at a hotel. I don't want to be a problem to anyone and I also enjoy my privacy, get up when I want, not worry about sharing a bathroom, when to shower, am I using up all the hot water.......are they waiting breakfast for me.....there is no end to it, better just to stay at a hotel, meet up for planned activities.

It kinda depends too on the circumstances. I know that if I drive for 5 hrs. plus in killer traffic to visit a relative and upon arrival am ferried to extended family gatherings, I’m kinda ragged out by the time I can finally hit the hay, and need to pay my sleep debt. This might mean that I need a bit more time in the sack…😴

I don't worry about how late they sleep or how early they get up because I no longer want overnight guests. I've had plenty over the years, and I'm done. Unless they absolutely have to stay with me for some reason, there's no room in the inn. They can stay in a hotel and sleep as late as they want. 🙂

When visiting others, I also prefer to stay in a hotel. I like my privacy.

Bella, I second this. I have been known to rent hotel rooms for guests with a different lifestyle and I have rented my own hotel rooms when visiting for years. Now I only have room to sleep one extra person and I’m ok with that.

Yes it's rude. Miss Manners says guests should blend with the routine of the household they're visiting, this makes it easier for the hostess as to meal planning, etc.

On the other hand I'm always secretly glad when my guests sleep in, so I can have my coffee and computer time alone. Just don't ask me to make eggs benedict and popovers at ten.
