What hurts today?

booked a new knee replacement yesterday
@hollydolly is right. I had knee replacement surgery done on both knees October 3, so I at about 3 1/2 months now.

I would be happy to answer any questions about my experience. Right now for you the important thing is to be doing exercises to strenthen your leg muscles. That will really help with your recovery, and that recovery is no small thing.

I did the cushion gel injections, prednisone dose pak and a steroid injection, no relief at all really my knee is worn out bad. I can fish half a day with 1 50mg tramadol and 2 ibuprofens. Then repeat if I stay longer. All the tramadol I take is about 2-weekly. All the tramadol does is knock the edge off the pain, not get rid of it.

The weather is cool and damp which aggravates what hurts even more. It's mostly my hip and toe joints today, but after some tea and tramadol for lunch, the pain is eased. I gotta get a walk in today before tomorrow's rain.

Can you be more specific?
I buy these little one-shot bottles of an energy drink called 5-hour. They are mostly vitamins B12 and B6, niacin, Taurine, and a little bit of caffeine. You can get it with no caffeine, and they also have sugar-free, and they work just as well but I prefer the one with everything.

What 5hr does is give me the energy to do what I want and what I need to do despite my pain. And that's good because moving helps relieve pain, or prevents it from getting worse. Keeps your joints loose and lubricated.

I drink 1 every day. I drink another half-shot in the afternoon if I need to, but not after 2pm.

Energy. Just like it sounds.
Does that much caffeine ever affect you badly, @Murrmurr ? I can't even deal with a second cup of coffee any longer without climbing walls. When my daughter was a baby who didn't agree that sleep was necessary, I was taking... oh pooh, what were they called? Vivarin? Yes... and it really messed me up after a while. Maybe that's why I can't take much of it now. (Edited to say that I just looked at WalMart and Vivarin is still on the market! Who knew!)

Oh, a little bit of caffeine? I must be thinking of another product then... there are some of these shots that are extremely high in caffeine mg.

I don't drink coffee. And yes, "a little caffeine." It's last on the ingredients list.
Those energy drinks are really bad for the heart and the BP...
My BP is always perfect, if not slightly low, and cardiac issues can occur if you drink 10 shots within an hour, like this uni student did several years ago, but otherwise, they aren't dangerous. ...Drink responsibly.

I have chronic back and neck pain from a few car accidents 30 years ago. I get massages and go to the chiropractor. I also use a heated cream. I have muscle relaxers if my back is out really bad.

2 years ago I injured my shoulder clearing my ex’s junk out of the house and it hurts when laying on it so have to turn over frequently. Many people have it much worse.

I did the steroid injections, worked for just a few days. My Doc was skeptical that the gel would do me any good. It will put you out of the fishing business for a while, but the kind of freshwater fishing you do, and just having one knee done, not too long. And after a few months, maybe sooner, your pain will be much less than it is now. I passed that point at about 1 1/2 months.

The operation 100% cures the osteoarthritis, instantly. The post surgical pain feels different, It is just recovery from the surgical "injury" and your body adapting to the new knees. Somehow it is better to know your pain will go away, the arthritis just gets worse.

I was able to walk with a walker within 12 hours of surgery, and without a cane in about 10 days. However full recovery is supposed to take a year or more. With only one knee replacement you should do as well or better.
Was hoping they showed which exercises & explain them.
Lots of information on that on the internet. Below is just one youtube video. I just made sure I kept up knee work at the gym, squats, leg press, leg extension, hamstring exercises, etc. More vigorous stuff than on the video. Strengthening your quads is particularly important. The surgery causes a lot of atrophy in your strength, going in strong really helps with recovery.
