No I have not. They still use them at my local Walmart. I wonder how that will affect pickup and delivery orders?

Pickup works fine. They bring your groceries out in their basket and load them in your car the way you want them. I have milk crates in the back. Some people have boxes, some have their reusable bags in the car and the kid that brings them out bags the groceries for you. I haven‘t gotten delivery.

Yes, it’s all chain stores here too. I got all geared up for groceries but forgot about chain restaurants. I ordered takeout from a restaurant and got surprised when they asked for a dime for the bag they put it in. I had left my purse in the car and they were nice and said I could pay twice next time. It will be the same fee at Penney’s or Home Depot so I need to put more reusable bags in the car that aren’t for groceries. For now they have plastic bags to buy but I believe that goes away and they will have no bags at all after awhile.

I will be buying bags that I will use only once for cat litter and small trash cans instead of reusing grocery bags. It doesn’t make sense.
It's interesting that @Alligatorob (Utah) can still get plastic bags at Walmart. Guess the ruling hasn't been initiated in Utah yet. It seems that so far at least 9 states have a ban, maybe more because what I saw online was outdated. Among them California, N.Y., Oregon and Maine. We got paper sacks the last time we ate at a restaurant. Funny...several months ago two different Walmarts had two different policies. One charged 10 cents for regular bags and the other didn't. Stores are also selling reusable plastic bags for around $1. Now is definitely the time to always keep bags with you. Unless you already know of very good litter disposal bags I highly recommend these from Amazon. I actually can use them a couple of times without smelling the waste. I leave the bag in the storage closet next to the scooper. I'm definitely going to reorder these.

The local Walmart banned plastic bags way last year. They were supposed to ban paper bags, the 18th of this month, but actually stopped using them several weeks earlier. Banning paper bags is totally stupid. Last time I was at the local Walmart, they had an announcement while I was shopping that Walmart was helping the environment by going bag less. Even the employees were laughing at that bull crap. They knew it was just a way to cut costs.

I'm in Colorado and as far as I know, since January 1st, the bags in all supermarkets are no longer free, and cost ten cents each if you want them. I have just paid the extra. Supposedly, starting in 2024, they won't be available at all. Not sure about the paper bags.

I'm okay with this, it was a long time coming. Far too many plastics polluting our lands and oceans and killing our wildlife and fish. The plastic dump in the ocean and the broken down plastics are not only harming the environment, but hurts people also.

I use a reusable bag at the health food store, either that or they give you a box for your purchases. Easy enough to be mindful if you're putting any meats of seafood in them. Many of them can be washed. Humans abused the luxury of plastics and we all pay the price one way or another.

Fact check: Walmart stores in Colorado, New York, Connecticut ditching single-use bags in 2023

"

Our rating: False

A spokesperson for Walmart said the claim is false. Stores in New York and Connecticut will no longer offer single-use bags as of Jan. 18. Several other states have enacted similar bans in recent years, but a majority of the retailer's locations still offer plastic and paper bags."

Here's a tip! I went to my local big box grocery store and they were selling the plastic produce crates for 50 cents. Most stores throw them away. Anyway, I use a walker and one fits perfectly on there. When I shop with hubs we can get 2 in a cart. At Aldi the checkers pack my groceries right back into the crate and even load it onto my walker for me. Look for them and ask at your store. I wash mine with a scrub brush. Easy to carry into the house, too!

Becky, I love it when the fact checkers are wrong. :)
It‘s actually a new state law here in Colorado for all chain stores. They can sell such bags for a dime until they run out and then switch to reusable but WalMart ran out in December.

Where I live (Colorado) there are no plastic bags or the ones, they have cost ten cents at some stores not all. I was wondering one time when I was in a self-checkout lane if I did not pay the ten-cent tax per bag if the checkout lane attendant could report me to the IRS for tax evasion? My wife made, bought, and received free reusable bags because she donates money and time to charities. A few days ago, she showed me a free reusable bag she had received and one of the handles had broken away from the bag when she was using it. So, I guess one thing I would suggest is to check the quality of the bags that you may have. I also checked into buying rolls of the same type of bags that stores use and was surprised to find out that they would cost from five to eight cents apiece to buy them. So, in effect for me I wondered why bother with this issue, just pay for the bags and reuse them for trash bags? I also wondered if stores like Walmart's that will no longer have plastic bags would Walmart be saving money not having to purchase the bags? Would that saving be reflected in lowering the price of the products they sell there? I have a few back packs and for the small amount of shopping that I do I think I will just take a backpack into the stores I shop at.

The claim: Walmart stores nationwide going bagless on Jan. 18

A Jan. 10 Facebook post (direct link, archive link) claimed a major change is coming to one of the country’s largest grocery store chains.

“I just left Walmart in Sapulpa and the lady working self checkout just told me come January 18th they’re doing away with plastic bags nationwide at all Walmarts – we will have to bring our own bags or buy them like Aldi’s,” reads the post.

Another version of the claim was shared more than 150 times in two days.
