What's something you've hung on to that should be thrown away?

Didn't want to hijack the "what do you have from the 70's post"

Is there anything you have drug around for years that really should just be tossed in the trash?

I'm typically good at disposing of stuff yet I still have some things from highschool. My diploma, my football jersey and my letters, (you know the letters you sew on your letterman jacket, that I never got)

It's just garbage stuff, kids would certainly have no use for it. Everything I happen to look into that box I think "throw it out", yet 44 years later I'm still holding on to it. Next time for sure it's going in the trash!!

I don't believe in hoarding or keeping sentimental things when there is no room!
But these few items you earned don't take up any room, so I think you should keep them. JMO.

A very funky old sweater. It has ragged cuffs, it's a bit too small now, it's so soft, it must be 40 years old or more. I wore it again a couple of days ago when it was below zero here, but only in the house. I have newer house sweaters but when it's really cold that's the one I want. It's comforting.

I have enough to fill several roll off dumpsters...

I once moved a couple of boxes cross country twice, without opening. They had multiple moving company labels. When I last moved I contemplated throwing them out without opening. But just couldn't see to bring myself to do it. I did open them, found nothing of any real value, and then repacked most of it and moved it here. It's still awaiting the day of the dumpster...

Very little, if anything. I move often, and have to get rid of stuff or leave it behind, willingly or unwillingly.

Offhand, I'd say I don't have haven't anything from years ago. I even got rid of some certificates that qualify me to do something, even though paper takes up little space.

I have a comfy shirt that I've had for 15 years, and I bought it used. I still wear it though, so it doesn't count.

I still maintain my business domain name and website, "just in case" -- even though I've been retired for a few years, and no longer have any tools of the trade, etc.

Well I still have my daughters' school books, and school work ..and all her certificates and medals from seniors school. ... . She's been out of school 27 years, and she doesn't want them, and keeps telling me to throw them away.. . I also have all the mothers day cards, all the postcards she sent to me when she went on school trips, with her ''i love you mummy'' written all over them when she was about 9 or 10.. in junior school...

Can't bring myself to throw them out

Your story reminded me of this. My son was very athletic and won many awards and trophys during his school years, leagues best and player of the game type stuff. I held on to them for several years after he moved out even though he kept telling me to throw them out. I finally did, I can still picture that pile of trophys and such in the dumpster at work. Made me sad.

see, this is what I know would happen if I did throw them out. I'm super proud of my daughter, as I'm sure you are of your son.. even if she's not interested in her trophies and achievements of the past I am...

My daughter lives very much for the future.. she leaves everything in her past, firmly in the past!

Tools in my shed that are wore out but may come in handy someday. Halfway broken tools like one part works but the other part does not work.

My husband's (passed away 7 years ago) and his framed certificates and awards are still on the wall.

When one of my sons was getting married, he asked for pictures of him growing up for a video. I told him that the album was offered a few years ago and you were not interested so I put the album in the garbage bin. A few days later, I gave him the album and told him "never tell me you are not interested in things as you know where they will end up."

In 2006, mom got moved to facility, I moved to Missouri and we sold the house. And everything in it. That was a complete and utter divesting of junk the likes I never saw before.

I had my bed, dogs, clothing and E-350 ford. I was clear of it all

Nothing that I'm aware of. Literally, this past year I literally went through all of my possessions, and tossed only two garbage bags full of items I no longer use. I've always tossed things out when I am through using them. No old small appliances, knick knacks, boxes of things I can't remember what's in them, Nothing left.
It's a good feeling, I can tell you that.

I’ve got to get rid of the old ball and chain. Hah, you thought I was referring to my wife! 😸
