How toasted is your toast?

My kids have always been appalled that I like my bread toasted “to where it’s a hockey puck” in their words …. almost black, and hard

They’re not wrong 😂

It was certainly a convenience for them that I liked it that way! “Give it to Mom, she’ll eat it” when they screwed up.

I just love the taste of that dark, carbonized bread. Most people find it bitter and unappealing. Not me!! My ex was the opposite, I felt like he was just sort of warming the bread up in the toaster, not even really roasting it! To me, bread barely toasted just tastes stale!

What about you?

Yes, I never understood that "warmed up bread" school of toast. Warmed up just enough to dry it out a bit. And when you try to butter it, it tears!

I prefer it hardened up and brown. Black is okay too. Anything that can hold lots of butter is fine.

All past tense, unfortunately.

I prefer it well-done too....with lots of real butter.

Same here .. I like it lightly toasted...

Why you shouldn't burn your toast...
Acrylamide is formed when the sugars and amino acids inside some starchy foods are exposed to temperatures above 248 degrees Fahrenheit. According to the FDA, the longer foods like potatoes or bread cook, the more acrylamides they accumulate. It can also be found in roasted coffee beans.

I can't do anything but medium light toast. Go any darker and the smoke alarm goes off.
There’re alarms that are designed for use near kitchens. It would be worth it. My DD used to take the batteries out. Her SO now is a firefighter so that bad habit is gone.

Golden which is about 3 on the toaster setting these days. In my childhood, I loved my grandpa's toast as they were done on a strange cone on a large iron-cast stove over wood burning logs.

Heavenly, especially that it came with fresh churned butter and home made peach preserves. Oh the memories 😸

You need this trick to keep them alarms quiet. I was given this valuable titbits by an ex-firefighter now electrician.

Get the simplest clear (or coloured) shower caps and cover each alarms. No more cacophony when cooking the bacon or toasts 👍
