Death Diving?! Seriously??

Seems that the newest TikTok craze/stunt is death diving. Good gracious! Okay, so they tuck their knees in right before hitting the water... fine and dandy, they think. What they don't think of is what happens if they don't tuck in time doing an extreme bellyflop from that height. Oh yeah the reason to do this foolishness? Millions of views for those videos. Views. SMH o_O

I know this has been around and people have been doing it... started in Norway, I think... but once something hits as a TikTok craze, a whole lot of people who don't really know what they're doing get hurt.

Same here, @Pepper . Again something tied to China and data privacy, but it's more than that. They start these foolish crazes and challenges and people get hurt or worse over them. I think YouTube started their "shorts" (which I personally hate, by the way) to compete, and it would be no heartburn in the least for TikTok to simply go away.

And it isn't just about privacy. The Chinese gov't uses Tik-Tok posts from kids outside China to show how stupid and irresponsible westerners are. Russia uses them for anti-west propaganda, too. For example, a lot of Russian people believe that western parents and doctors dupe their kids into surgically changing their gender.

Well now, there's some stuff I didn't know! I had assumed it was just used for data mining and other privacy concerns. But now that you've said it, I have no trouble believing any of it at all. :mad:

There's a couple of YouTube channels where Russian YouTubers do "man on the street interviews" with regular Russian people, and they often ask questions like "What do you think about Americans?" The answers are pretty shocking. Some Russians say we're no different from anyone else, but you hear a lot of answers like "They're Satanists" "They eat their young (i'm not kidding)" "They rape children" etc. And most of them believe that all Americans hate Russians. Also, there's quite a few who say the whole world needs communism - or in their words, "All the world needs to be Russia."

A few of those channels are 1420, StreetTalk, and Real Russia.

My daughter watches a few channels of people inside Russia... but not the ones who hate Americans. Now let's talk about this thing you said, @Murrmurr ! Is that some kind of figurative reference I'm not aware of... I know you're not kidding about them saying it, but does it stand for something? Wait! Am I having a false memory, or did Nazi Germany say that same thing about the Jews?!

And that "they rape children" really burns me... apparently they have no idea what their soldiers are doing to little Ukrainian girls? Then again, there have been some videos of soldiers calling their wives and mothers and TELLING them what they're doing to the girls and women and the mamas and wifes seem to think it's fine... "do what you have to do." Guess their soldiering didn't change much since WWII. :mad:

It's very dangerous, but it doesn't kill everyone. Geez, I can't even believe I'm saying those words and talking about human beings who are supposed to have at least a little common sense.
 
UNbelievable. I've been reading up on this. Death diving actually started in '72 (who knew???) ... but the world championship for it (I kid you not!) began in 2008. So now the TikTok brainless got ahold of it and how many will be hurt and killed?
 
TikTok started a rise in Kia & Hyundai car thefts over the past summer by showing how to hot wire them using a USB. In several instances, the unlicensed teenagers have been involved in high speed accidents resulting in fatalities.

Besides continuing to allow things like this to be posted & not removed or banned, there's the case of them data mining personal information of people who've signed up to TikTok & not to mention the security risk to our country.

On Monday, Rep. Ro Khanna (D) of CA told CNBC there should be a FORCED SALE of TikTok to an American company because you can’t just ban something that millions of young people are using.

Who in their right mind would buy it from the Chinese & think it would be safe to use? Can you imagine how many back doors they have in place to continue the data mining or worse?

I'm not into banning either, but TikTok needs to go away, period.

That's one I hadn't heard of. It boggles to realize the things that are going on. It's like some alien spacecraft (Chinese balloon?? :unsure: ) is sucking the common sense right out of the human species.
 
You can't fix stupid. Apps like this just brings them out of the woodwork & makes them more visible for everyone to see. I guess it's their 15 minutes of fame.
 
At times, I feel so old, and out of touch. Just today, in this forum, I had to look up what the hell a Generative Pretrained Transformer was, and now what 'death diving' is. I don't think the evil Tik Tok Empire is the cause of stupid stunts like death diving. It's the adolescents, being adolescent doing this. It's the youth driven crowd that wants to try bungee cord jumping, without the cord. And, of course, get it on cam.
