The topic of Milk, anything about it...

Keep both whole and nonfat dry milk in my pantry...fresh milk goes bad too quickly.
No substitute for real milk at times. Don't drink it every day but certainly have it handy.

I buy a half gallon of fat free milk a week. Drink a small glass every morning with my breakfast. I also eat Greek yogurt several times a week, and kefir occasionally. Very little cheese other than a sprinkle (usually parmesan) on veggies or low fat mozzarella on my homemade no sauce pizzas.

I combine almond with oat milk to create a coffee creamer, and use almond milk for cereal, baking and cooking.

I have some lactose intolerance, but mostly steer away from dairy milk because plant-based milks are fine and have no saturated fat or cholesterol.

Last but certainly not least, animals with the unfortunate fate of being in large livestock and dairy farms, are generally treated abominably.

Have drank much milk all my life and enjoy all dairy. Maybe why my hair, fingernails grow so rapidly and my skeletal system is so strong for a small person. For decades due to supposed health reasons, bought reduced fat milk but when that narrative was dismissed, have been back to whole milk. A good balance for protein among those that don't eat much meat and don't have weight issues. At home, balance milk drinking during meals with fruit juices and notably am not an alcohol beverage fan. In the era I grew up in, there was a general cultural attitude that real men don't drink milk that I first noticed in what other men drank during their meals at military base cafeterias and then during working years in corporate work places. Even today tend to get that vibe out in public when other men see me drinking milk. Versus hunter-gatherers, those ancient human ethnic groups that are tolerant of milk tends to reflect a pastoral ancestry where community groups of people lived together working as a team shepherding livestock.

I don't drink glasses of milk, but I always have organic grass-fed whole milk and heavy cream in my fridge. I use them to make homemade ice cream and other desserts, as well as on my oatmeal. Likewise, I also always have macadamia nut milk on hand and full-fat coconut milk, which I use in my coffee.

Milk question.. When we buy milk in a plastic carton the sell be date is about 10 days. When he buy milk in a cardborad carton the sell by date is about two months. Do they add to the milk to give it a long sell by date? If so what?

Thanks.

I enjoyed this thread @LadyEmeraude . Now I know I am not alone in still liking milk after all these years. It's a comfort food basic to me.
Hey there @ Right Now :) I love milk too and its a comfort to me even if it has to be Lactose free milk. I am so happy you are an active

I think I read that ultra-pasteurized milk (that stays good for some months) needs to be kept in cartons, but it didn't seem to be true at Kroger, they sold it in little plastic jugs. So I don't think they add anything to give a long sell by date, they just kill off more of the bacteria that would spoil it.
