Left Change in the Self Check Out.

On occasion I find change in the self check out. Recently it's been 3 cents, 7 cents. In the past, a little more. I don't feel comfortable taking it. Today there was 3 cents and I was due a penny back. I took my penny and left the rest. A few years ago, I remember around 70 dollars or so left in the self check out. I turned it in, with the hope that whoever had put that, likely, 100 dollar bill in would remember and come back.

I know some here don't like self check out but I do. Do you take the change or leave it? This isn't a moral type question. The pennies may be left by someone who doesn't care about them. I just have this feeling that I shouldn't take the change. It wasn't mine.

I’m with you on this one, Remy.
I don’t like taking what isn’t mine……like you……a penny here and there.
But…..
We don’t have the penny option anymore, because Canada has deleted them.
The saying goes…..a penny earned, a penny saved.
It doesn’t sound right saying…..a nickel earned, a nickel saved.

I have never seen any change in them but maybe it is there and I didn't know it. Now my boyfriend will get cash from his debit card at the self check-out and has forgotten it. He did this twice that I think of. Both times went back to the store and someone had turned it in at the customer service.

I’m usually one of those people that leaves the change, especially coins and the receipt. I have had people yell at me as I walk away to get my attention to come back and pick up my change.

Oh wow, I didn't know that about the penny. It's been talked about in the U.S., but I don't know if they will ever do it.

Our self check-outs here in Jersey do not take cash these days.

You must find a Checker if you want to pay cash.
