Homicides Increasing?

Everyone seems so antsy these days about going out in public or meeting strangers. Is it because there are more homicides, or are these crimes just getting more publicity. If they are really increasing, what's the reason?

Well, I'm not against meeting strangers. And I don't carry. The true odds of meeting someone with a gun (excluding Leo's) is extremely low. Most guns used in incidents are 1. Suicides 2. Gang fights.

Guns @debodun. In GA, like in some other states, you don't even need a permit. Just go ahead and pack, and if somebody looks at you, or maybe you don't like the way they drive, or you want whatever they've got like money or jewelry, shoot to kill.
Yes, guns are everywhere. And people aren't crazy, guns make them crazy, dammit.
Before guns were invented, nobody ever hurt anybody - people were wonderful & the world was filled with love.
Guns are the root of all evil.
There are no evil people. It's guns that are evil. They are the work of the devil. Mine even grew horns & a tail.

I take it you’re being cynical, but I think we all get the point. I carry and because I’m not a real big guy, only 5 foot 9 inches, a lot of people can tell I’m wearing a gun. I can’t stand wearing a holster inside the waistband, so I wear it outside and with some shirts, it kind of stands out like a sore thumb, especially in the summer. I have a permit, but people look at you like you have the virus. I can see them hurry up with what there doing and get out of the store.

I've owned guns for nearly 60 years, including a handgun or two. Not only have I never shot anyone, my psychiatrist friend tells me I'm one of the most well-balanced people he knows. I HAVE shot deer, pheasant, rabbits, coyotes and a feral dog or 2.

Don’t shoot anyone. You may not get your gun back. I shot a guy months ago and I wore out my welcome at city hall. I’m not even allowed inside anymore. They finally sent me a registered letter a few weeks ago telling me that I wore out my welcome, more or less and if I get caught inside without being invited, they will arrest me for trespassing. I told them to give me my gun back, but no answer.

Watch yourself. Now they're just looking for a reason to lock you up after the thieves, I mean cops, outright stole your gun, and you had the nerve to ask for it back.

The DA told me they are allowed by state law that they can hold the gun in evidence for up to 2 years.

It's much easier for cops to steal someone's gun than stealing guns & drugs out of their evidence lockers. And they have a ready-made (BS) excuse: "The less guns in the hands of people, the better."

Is the case still under investigation or is it finished? I've never heard of evidence being held unless there were appeals pending. If it's done, then I'd get an attorney that deals with this type of matter & have him deal with it.

While Violent crime... aggravated assault, murder, rape and robbery increased at least in 2020, it still remained lower than it was in the 1990s.
The murder rate is significantly lower than it was in the 1990s, stats say 30-40% lower, but much higher than it was just three or four years ago.

However (isn't there always a however?) The data collection system, called the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS), has
been around for years, but it requires departments to log crimes in greater detail, and wasn't their only option for doing so before.
In 2015, the FBI announced that it would be switching from its previous system to only using NIBRS beginning in 2021, meaning that as of that year, departments had to submit data via NIBRS or not at all.

As it turns out, many chose the latter. The 63% of law enforcement agencies that submitted data for 2021 marks the lowest level of participation the FBI has reported in decades, and only 52% of them submitted a full 12 months of data.
So, once again, there is no way to be sure if it's going up or down, so, I guess it all boils down to one's own perception.

Sure - "2 years." And they'll make sure to make so difficult & costly, you'll give up.
Back when "Dateline NBC" did a piece on cops fabricating traffic violations to stop motorists driving expensive cars so they can confiscate the cars and any valuables in them under the guise of "The War On Drugs," a cop in disguise said it best:
"Many cops make the worst criminals look like angels by comparison."

Are you aware of the fact that he would have to pay many times what the gun is worth - with no guarantee of success? And success would be highly unlikely.
And once the attorney has his money, he can do as little work as he wants. And when the client complains, the attorney will say, "You've used up my whole fee."

@win231

Not what I've seen when people hire quality attorneys to help them in matters.

We have some scum attorneys in our city that will take your money until it runs out & then walk away before the case is done. Everyone knows who they are. These less than scrupulous attorneys only win cases when they get them dismissed on technicalities & not because their client was innocent. Their one trick pony is to file multiple motions to suppress all evidence & when those fail, they will tell you to take a plea deal.

No, today we enjoy the lowest homicide rates in human existence. In the very short term in the US there have been some ups and downs since about 1950, but the longer term trend is down.

Long Term Trends in Homicide Rates

Thank you for posting something factual rather than speculative. I think we hear more about homicides these days because of social media and because it gains ratings for the news. According to both, we are living in a Hellscape.
