Wedding band needs resized or replaced

Our 20th wedding anniversary is coming up this May, I thought perhaps I should be wearing my wedding band on my ring finger, instead of the middle finger.
Back story: I weighed 290 lb.s when I got my wedding band, size 10. I had lost weight, now am at 183, and my ring size is 8. My size 10 ring would slip off my ring finger, which is why it resides on the middle finger, which is a bit bigger.
I can have a jeweler resize it, but am wondering if it would be less expensive to just buy a new size 8 band, with the same gold and physical specs as the existing ring. I found a ring on Amazon(and one on ebay) in a size 8, both running $320. Has anyone paid to have a ring resized?

I would resize for the sentimental reasons. It should not cost that much, remember you are taking a way precious metal, not adding. Any jeweler should be able to give you a quote before you do it. I have not done it in awhile and I had to add. It was under $100.

I had my ring resized in June of '17. It is a simple band and I don't remember exactly how much it was, but something like $30 done by a reputable jeweler.
Thanks, that gives me a ballpark figure to work with. We do need to take the trip to see a jeweler anyway, as my wife's wedding ring has a couple damaged prongs that hold the main diamond.

I am guessing I was not so crazy. We married young, could not afford much. What we chose was perfect for us then and still perfect for me today. Female relatives and friends over the years decided they needed an upgrade. I never wanted anything changed about my engagement or wedding ring. I wanted the same ones he put on my finger. Yes, he bought me other rings through the years but know enough to know I would never change my wedding rings. I still have the first ring he gave me. A promise ring, when I was sixteen. I can't wear it now, too small but I have it and would not take anything for it.

P.S..there's also a ring adjustment..thingy.. it's a strip of flexible plastic..the width of the ring..that is tacky..to be placed inside...to make smaller.
🤔.. don't know if I explained it very well.
Look on Amazon

I've seen something similar, made of gold. But I think permanent resizing is better in most instances. Some rings can't be resized though. Take it to a jeweler and find out.

I bought a beautiful large turquoise and sterling ring at an antique store. The band was totally thrashed. I only paid $29.00 for the ring but I think it cost 65 for the resizing. band repair.

I had it done at a local estate jewelry place that does onsite repairs and the work was flawless and sized to what I wanted, 6.5. If you have someplace like that in your area, that might be best.

I'd suggest having the original resized... and you can take this with a grain of salt, but I'd not consider buying a wedding ring on Amazon or eBay... I've shopped at Amazon extensively for about 18 years now but they are having quite a problem with knock-offs in all categories and I'd think jewelry would be an "easier" thing to fake. Sure you'd take it to a jeweler and make sure it's real, but if it's not, you'd have the mess of getting a refund.

In any case, huge congrats on the upcoming 20th!

Thank you! Yep, we're going to schedule a visit to a jeweler we've previously had work done from, and have her wedding ring prongs repaired, maybe fuse the engagement ring and wedding ring together, and also have them size my band as well.

Go on Amazon and do a search for "ring size reducers " They are small coiled plastic rings, that you wrap around the ring. The package costs about $9.99, and it has a 8 different sizes. I had the same problem as you, after I lost 100 pounds. This solution doesn't require cutting the ring at all. Takes about one minute to install, and they last for years. The plastic is see through, and as you place it on the part of the ring that no one sees, it is invisible. . Try it., JImB.

One thing I forgot to mention is....The plastic ring sizers can be cut, to fit your needs with scissors. Best $9.99 I have spent recently. JimB.
