Anyone following the Alex Murdaugh trial in SC ?

..and they didn't find any on his clothes , in his house, in his bathroom or shower.. . tey found some gunshot residue on the tarp in his car, but he often hunted so they couldn't prove that it was anything to do with the killings
They also never found O.J. Simpson's bloody clothes. They both covered their tracks.

yes and he got found not guilty didn't he ?.. which potentially could happen with Murdough even if he's guilty.

the trouble is because they introduce the matter of the pill popping, and the huge fraudulent practices.. it's hard to not think of him as 100 % Bad... .. but if he did it

Yes, I've been watching it and not only is he a disgusting individual who withheld money from his housekeeper's family after she died at his house, his son Paul was a spoiled brat who killed a girl due to driving a boat while intoxicated. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

The fact that he tried to blame Paul's death on people who were seeking vengeance for the boating accident is also despicable. Listening to his phony 911 call after the death of his wife and son just makes me cringe.

I've just spent the last 3 hours watching Alex give testimony.. I'm getting more tired of the prosecution keep asking the same question over and over again. What part of 12 years ago, and Murdough was full up with drugs and clearly he's not capable of remembering specific conversations with those he stole from.... ... is he not getting ? I see where he's going with this, he's trying to get the Jury to believe that Murdough is a cold calculating liar and fraud and capable of being straight faced enough to do it to people he cared about.. we get that... but change the record FGS..

I just check the news online for updates on the trial. But, I just finished watching the new documentary on Netflix on the Murdaugh Murders. It is 3 episodes maybe 45 minutes each. I knew a lot about all of the events that happened, but it was very interesting. A lot about the boating incident then tells about all the rest & how the family always tried to make everything go away. It's a good watch if you get Netflix.

The Murdaugh family has hit headlines several times in the past, none of it good. Now, a reporter came out today and stated that more scandals involving this bunch, and their corrupt ilk are involved in worse scandals all leading up to and including both the state and federal government. This entire case is sick with nothing but a ream of sociopathic, power hungry, greedy maniacs involved. Methinks Maggie wanted to protect Paul from Alex and that was her biggest mistake.

I do get Netflix so I may watch that after the trial.. currently he's on the stand giving evidence.. He's just been questioned on using his influence as a lawyer/solicitor to go to the hospital after the death of Mallory Beach and attempt to influnce the survivors on what they saw... he denies it of course!

I've not heard that theory before... what makes you think that Lois ?

I was shouting at the TV tonight, when he was asked by the prosecution if he thought he lives a wealthy lifestyle. Murdough, bumbled and stumbled, stuttered, ''what do you mean by a wealthy lifestyle ?.. P : well you were earning over a Million Dollars a year and that's before the added money you stole ( which so far has come to around 6 million)... surely you must have been living a 'Wealthy lifestyle''... no Murdough wouldn't have it... he insisted that he didn't have a wealthy lifestyle, nor did he exert power and influence over anyone at all..

I was shouting For Gods sake how can you not have been living a wealthy lifestyle !! Not doing himself any favours at all

Well.. he's got the Jury on his side.. 2 of the jury were crying when he was giving his testimony about never ever considering harming his Paul,Paul ( as he calls his late son) .. or Maggie in any way!

This is dangerous ground for the prosecution.!.. rarely ever has a jury been moved to tears by the testimony of the presumed murderer..

I am absolutely of the mind that even tho' we know he's a low life scumnbag stealing the insurance money from the dead, and the crippled... and defenceless.. and that according to most people who know him he's a big headed swaggart who is very capable of being a people person, and a charmer to get his own way.. ... I hope that he didn't kill his family.. and I hope if he didn't, then they find him not guilty and not be swayed by his corruption and swindling... .. but my goodness if this man did do it.. I hope he gets the full weight the law can drop on him !

The prosecution is seeking life in prison without parole allowing him to avoid the death penalty if convicted. I wonder why they chose this strategy. 🤔

I don't know, simply because I don't know which states allow the death penalty in the USA ... perhaps they're relying on the fact that without proof they wouldn't be able to get a Death penalty conviction and more likely if found guilty to get life ...I don't know, it's very interesting trial.....

The jurors may have been crying for other reasons.
Like when the first investigator on the scene described how large sections of Paul's brain were on the ceiling of the barn.

no they didn't cry when that was revealed.. they only cried when Murdough was sobbing when talking about how he found the dead bodies of his wife and son...

The court reporters were aghast..they'd never seen anything like it from jurors... siding with an accused in this way.. which goes a long way to prove how manipulating he is..

There's a theory that Maggie was just a means to an end for Alex, and due to the The grandfather who had a lot of control over that family as well as Alex and one Son with a drinking problem...along with her husband with a similar drug problem. The other son kicked out of law school, and Alex being the only breadwinner.. she probably couldn't see a way out even tho' she was sick to the back teeth of Alex's Drug use.. and then just prior to the Killings, Maggie & Paul were ordered to give evidence in the near future at
a hearing in a civil case brought by Mallory Beach's family to be forced to tatify about teenagers being allowed to roll around drunk on their property unheeded... Crucially, it would have required Murdaugh to provide a full picture of his finances which could have revealed he was fleecing his clients.

The state is suggesting he had his wife and son killed so they couldn't come to court, which would mean his finances couldn't be scrutinised..

Apparently so used to being able to bend the law... a member of his own family said that neither Alex nor his father or grandfather ever lost a case in court, they were so powerful as a family , and were known to rule the county...and had prosecutors and police officers in their pockets

Wonder what the odds are? 🤔
goodness knows.. . This could turn into one juror saying..but the glove doesn't fit...... but the more that comes out the worse it can be. I mean how can he get past settig up his distant cousin to shoot him to make it look like the whole family were being targeted ? ..he tried to explain it away by saying he'd paid to be killed so the remaining son Buster could inherit all his money... Oh please.. if that was the case, just kill yourself..you don't need anyone else to do it..

I wonder who it was......the father or grandfather of Alex, in charge I mean, in 1965, when I arrived in that poisoned evil place of Walterboro SC....

Pepper.. without knowing the story, I can't speculate .. apparently the grandfather was the major patriarch but the father Randolph in 1965 .. had only graduated from Law school the previous year .

For 87 years, a male member of the Murdaugh family had been assistant solicitor . The thing about dynasties is, that much power corrupts.

It's difficult for me to get my head wrapped around this because in the UK an assistant solicitor is someone who basically doe the filing in a lawyers office.. so I've had to research more about American law..

If you are referring to Maggie protecting Paul, Holly, it is simply my thought as a mother. Despite the fact that this kid was trouble from the get go, he was her baby and after all he's put them through, I think Alex was fed up with it all due to his many problems. He may have indicated that Paul would have to get out of all this on his own, and Maggie wanted to meet with him with Paul. Of course, Alex, who so conveniently claims he was totally befuddled due to his drug ingestion, is playing the prosecutor over all this beautifully. We have to keep in mind that he was a clever attorney himself. As I watched his testimony, he made certain he spoke to the jury, rarely looked at the prosecutor, and was able to conjure up the tears. These are all courtroom tricks well rehearsed before taking the witness stand. This is going to be a tough one for the juries due to the power of the Murdaugh family in not only South Carolina, but far-reaching to the heart of our government.

Pepper wondered if the Murdaughs were in charge when she experienced her unfortunate situation back in '65. I am inclined to think so, since the family has been so renowned even in those days.

The prosecutor has his work cut out for him in portraying Alex for being a heartless monster.

With regard to Pepper, Lois, I think she was wondering which of the patriarch's were in charge, Randolph or the grandfather..I think it would have been the grandfather given the father Randolph had just graduated law school the previous year.

I'm in total agreement with you with regard Alex's behaviour in court. He presents as a '' decent chap'' who became addicted to drugs and due to that over 20 years defrauded family friends and clients . He was extremely polite to the prosecution regardless of how much they tried to get him angry, ever the Southern Gentleman .... he was able to sob so convincingly to the jury that 2 jurors broke down in tears...

It's clear he is a No good piece of work... despite his outward persona.. and you may well be right about Maggie's intention with Paul... however it's been stated that Paul was a bombastic, self entitled , self centred, ''child'' due to the fact that his mother refused to discipline him..ever!!
The problem I suppose and only you and other Americans can know this.. that the USA is so large and has so many governing bodies all across the country with laws that are different from other states, and senators running the show in Loco Parentis in essence, for the President and the government .. that it's all but nigh impossible to keep control of familes such as this who rise to control any specific area, where big money is involved and they have the local law enforcers in their pockets as well as the Banks ..

I couldn't watch much. That man is evil incarnate. He will get off, if not unanimously then hung jury.
Thus far, I think you may be right Pepper.. however it's got a bit to go yet, so we'll see how things play out.

This family are so powerful that a large framed picture of Murdough's grandfather hung in the very court where the trial is being held ... the picture had to be removed before the trial started.

However if he is found not guilty of murder.. and he may well be because they really have no proof... altho' it's pretty clear he must have done it or arranged to have it done.. he still has to face all the corruption charges..so he'll end up in Jail for a long time IMO..

71 charges of theft and corruption, and $8.5 million defrauded...
