Anyone following the Alex Murdaugh trial in SC ?

I thought one possible motive was that she knew of his crimes and he was afraid she would report him. I think I read that she had shared information about his fraud with at least one person...a close friend. (?)
That's a possibility..I hadn't heard that one yet. ..but why the son as well ?

That's a good question I'm sure everyone who's following the case would like the answer to HD.
I certainly would..lol...

The thing is they first said that Murdough killed his son Paul because if Paul was dead Alex wouldn't have to pay the Million and a half compensation on his behalf to the Mallory Beach family... but then it made no sense for him to kill his wife as well.. he could simply have killed his son in some other way a hunting accident or a drowning in a boat accident.. or a myriad of other ways .. if that's what he wanted... and left his wife alive.... it's the combination of the 2..while leaving the other son alive which is the most puzzling part..

Trouble is, if he's convicted I don't think he will ever confess ..

I think that when a person can configure his/her mind to kill another human being for any reason other than self defense, we can assume that person's thought processes are not rational or normal. And you know what they say..."Crime makes ya stupid". Being who he his...his status in the community, he probably thought he could lie his way out of being a suspect.

that's my thoughts entirely... i was the same, feeling sorry for him thinking he seemed like a nice guy, a gentle soul.. loved his family.. until I found out about his background, and his family's history.. and I thought..*Yikes*... I'm still wondering however how he didn't get any blood spatter or gunshot residue on him if he shot them...that's a puzzle...
I watched Dr Phil show where they were discussing it. They mentioned he changed clothes. (??)

Yes but that was nothing unusual for Alex as he and everyone who knew him testified. Being a big guy and overweight in the high humidity of the summer in SC..he sweated a lot and as soon as he did anything physical he would shower and change clothes..sometimes 4 times a day..

This trial seems to have taken over the cable news networks....CNN/FOX/MSNBC...and probably other channels, during the past couple of days. The question I have is "what is so important about this particular case"?? What is so unique about this trial that it warrants ceasing all other news reporting? After all, there are dozens of murder cases/trials being conducted daily, all over the country. Heck, these channels are even silencing their endless commercials....Is this guy so important to warrant such extensive coverage???

I watched the Netflix documentary earlier this evening... all three episodes. It's the story of a corrupt family that was enabled by corrupt law enforcement and a corrupt justice system. But Alex may soon get his comeuppance. (Wasn't comeuppance a "word of the day" on SF not too long ago?)

My theory is that he murdered his son, Paul, because his legal expenses were piling up for the manslaughter trial. And he murdered his wife because she was going to file for divorce and from her death, he could collect on the insurance policy he took out a few months earlier.

It's all about the money (IMO). Alex was caught embezzling money from his law firm and was outed, so he had no income. And he was used to getting away with everything, including murder, so in his mind, it was just another day at the office.

He did, and on the stand, he admitted he lied to investigators. Not very smart. He gained nothing by testifying.
yes but he had little choice but to take the stand, he HAD to explain why he lied about being at the kennels when the jury had already viewed footage which showed he was there...

Fortunately not here on our networks. Not even on our TV news... only on the Court TV channel...

It's called ratings. MSNBC has lessened their coverage in favor of regular news. FOX does the best job for stories like this.

I'm convinced now he killed them. His motive, in his mind, was that they were ruining everything.
Maggie was getting ready to divorce him and expose his financial crimes.
His ungrateful and stupid son, again, in his mind, was causing him lawsuits that would ruin him and his favorite son.
He planned it and carried it out. He knew how to cover things up.
His drug damaged brain convinced him he would get away with it.

Ok.. I haven't heard any witnesses say Maggie was going to divorce him.. !..even in their latest texts they were very friendly meeting up for sport venues and dinner..

I have just watched the first episode of the 3 part Netflix documentary..where Mallory was killed in the boating accident. According to all the youngsters, maggie was not a good mother, and she didn't care for Paul at all, favouring Buster all the time.
Neither Alex or Maggie cared how much Paul drank, and in fact encouraged him and all his friends aged just 14-16 to drink, even allowing them to come in the back door at Alex's solicitors office, and drink alcohol.. Paul apparently was not only a wide child, who had been given everything he always wanted, but he was physically abusive to his girlfriend .. ironically the woman who did raise Paul from a toddler ,and loved him, and he her in place of a mother figure was the Lady who mysteriously died on their property , and who Alex subsequently defrauded her family of the insurance payout..

Wow..this is just the first 30 minutes..
