Why have so many big name performers declined King Charles III coronation?

I'm not trying to stir the pot, but I found this puzzling and would love to hear from my fellow Brits. Elton John, Harry Styles, Adele, Robbie Williams, Ed Sheeran and the Spice Girls have all declined. What is the issue?

Don't get me wrong. I absolutely love Kylie Minogue and would watch her performance, but she is Australian. Why have no British artists stepped up?

Why Will No One Perform At King Charles III’s Coronation?

This is an event organiser's worst nightmare. - by Ava Gilchris

As anyone who has ever organised a major party or celebration will know, working with suppliers can be very tough! Performers are finicky, guests drop out at the last minute and dealing with catering (plus dietary requirements) often turns into a bigger palaver than it’s worth.
Though, when you’re the King of England, you’d think that these mundane stresses are somewhat alleviated. You’d assume if you’re the head of the English monarchy and you throw a party, that everyone would be elated to come, right?

So if that’s the case, why does no one want to perform at King Charles III’s coronation?
Given that for many of us, it’s the first royal coronation we’ve been alive to see, you'd think everyone would be dying to attend. But rather than the excitement and jubilation that should follow King Charles being annointed as King, it’s turning into quite the PR nightmare for Buckingham Palace.
Simply put: King Charles III can’t find anyone to sing at his little soirée. We jest, but should we be concerned that the head of the state can’t pull a few strings to at least get someone on stage?

And if we look at his predecessor, the late Queen Elizabeth, she had an entire piece written by famous composer Arnold Bax for her coronation, so surely Charles can get Adele to play Rolling In The Deep?
Below, everything you need to know about the controversy surrounding the performance at King Charles III’s coronation.

What does it say about the state of the monarchy if the head of the royal family can't get a Grammy winner to sing at his party?

Who Is Performing At King Charles III’s Coronation?

That’s the million dollar question on everyone’s lips: who will provide the music for the occasion? And so far the best guess we have is Take That.
The Y2K boy band is most famously known now as a blip on Robbie Williams' meteoric rise to success, but reports are claiming that Williams has turned down the official invitation.
But fear not, King Charles III has a secret card hidden up his sleeve: The X Factor runner-up Olly Murs?
Surely there must be someone brave enough to step up to the plate and fill the gig, especially considering England’s best and brightest musicians had no qualms about taking themselves to Wimbledon for the iconic 2012 Olympic Games ceremony.
Let’s run through the invitees and their current ‘RSVP’ status.

Adele? Not booked or busy, just didn’t want to do it. Ed Sheeran? Has a concert that day. A reunited Spice Girls? Sadly they reportedly declined too. Harry Styles? On tour. Elton John? Nada.

In all seriousness, King Charles has locked in some pretty famous names to perform, despite the fact that Britain’s most decorated singers have conveniently found themselves ‘unavailable’.

The Palace has confirmed that Andrew Lloyd Webber (of musical theatre fame) will be composing an anthem for the occasion, Kylie and Dannii Minogue will be reuniting on stage (although Sydney WorldPride got the exclusive) and Lionel Richie will round out the set list.

We guess King Charles is in the mood to party, karamu, fiesta, forever and dance all night long?
Either way, we’ll be tuning in on May 8 to see King Charles recieve the St Edward's Crown, Kylie slay the stage and see Prince Harry show is face for the occasion.

Why they have declined his coronation?
They don't like Charles, they don't like Camilla or they don't like both of them. About 30 years ago a member of the House of Commons, standing at the Thames, said: "You could throw all members of the Royal family into the water behind me. It would make no difference."
On the other hand, my country has no monarchy, but the government isn't better yet.

All the rock stars are going on tours this spring, tons of them. Another British Invasion of the Colonies! I can think of several big names going off to do concerts around coronation time.

The British tabloid press is infamous for "some say", etc. You know, shocking headlines about royals in bold print, and underneath in small type is "some say". Any idiot, like me, can say anything about anybody, but it doesn't necessarily mean it's true. I believe the "royals" are actually real, live humans, with all our faults and assets, and their families are just as weird as everybody else's. To me, the never ending "royal reality show" seems more the work of the tabloid press.

I have no idea why there are refusals... but the first thing that came to mind when I saw your question was remembering that Elton John and Diana had been friends so I wondered if that might explain at least his refusal. And he did the song for her that was written to the tune of one of my favorite John/Taupin songs, Candle in the Wind/ Goodbye England's Rose.

Diana's not the issue. And Elton John is still reeling from how Diana was treated by Camilla and Charles who have made a royal mess of things
so I can see where those entertainers with any decorum would not want to be identified with them.
That was my point. If he's refusing to "celebrate" Charles and Camilla, it could be because he was Diana's friend.

To perform at a royal event in 2023 would be to align yourself with blatant scandal. The recent allegations regarding Prince Andrew’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein and an alleged sexual relationship with one of Epstein’s victims are still fresh in people’s minds. And so is Andrew’s disastrous 2019 BBC Newsnight interview about said claims. But before people had a chance to reconcile their feelings about Andrew, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle publicly announced that they were stepping down from royal duties. In the years since, Harry and Markle have levied several accusations against the royal family and the UK press, claiming their respective treatment of Markle led to fears for her mental and physical health. The discourse and growing divide between the couple and the Institution has been well documented in Harry’s 2023 tell-all memoir Spare and the couple’s Netflix series Harry & Meghan.

Harkles' accusations about Meghans mental health..?.. perhaps they're worried she might become sane if she stayed around the RF.. she can't get any more insane that's for sure!

The fact is no-one has said that anyone has refused an invitation to sing at the Coronation.. but those that have been sited in the OP.. are a bit Pathetic.. Britain was the Music capital of the world at one time, we had the greatest Rock bands.. .. can't we find people better than an aged old 70's Band.. an Australian, pop singer whose fan base is 10, and Old 70's Singer whose trotted out every version of Candle in the wind since 1997... ... and people who've won a talent contest ?... I think we'll find that we can...

Well, you could try for "Nickelback, Lady Gaga, Nadine Cole, Katy Perry. Taylor Swift" I'm sure he'll get someone, but the quality will be debated.

Well... we have received our complimentary tickets to the Windsor concert, but won't be going...too tiring after attending my niece's wedding and other events connected to the coronation.
Have given the tickets to the young members of the family.
I am sure it will be a lovely event!!

It just struck me funny that the Royal Orchestra would have to be “forced” to play for their King.

And just an aside…their King just turned over his son Harry’s Cottage to his pedophile brother. Since when is being a pedophile not as bad as writing an honest tell all book about the royals?

It was honest from Harry’s viewpoint. So you’re rooting for the pedophile to get the cottage over Harry? Hey, I thought you had me on ignore? I was so enjoying it.
I only took you off ignore because your ridiculous and ignorant post was sent to me by someone else .....I'm sure you were enjoying me not confronting your BS... almost as much as I was enjoying not reading it!!

FYI...Andrew is not a paedophile.. he had sex with an almost 18 year old prostitute .. when in fact the legal age in the UK is 16... he's paid his price for not knowing she was a few months under age in the US. Secondly.. Harkle are liars and manipulators ( got you easily fooled, not difficult )... so according to your way of thinking, they should live in another country.. do no work at all for the RF for which they get paid £2 million plus per year AND also get keep a free cottage in the UK along with their mutli million property elsewhere... ?..instead the King has thought about offering ..not yet given.. (wrong again, you're very rarely right).. the property to his brother as a rental.. !!..tsk, tsk..bad king says some random woman who lives in fairly land...

Now go away and do some real research before you make yourself look like a fool one again!
