What social media is messing with you?

About a month ago I was notified by facebook that my account was suspended bc I didn't follow their Community Standards -- so nothing concrete, just cheap BS, Zuckerberg style. I was asked to provide an ID (upload it on one of their sites) so they'll unblock my account and ... of course I uploaded my "ID" below (my own creation). Of course that I still don't have an account ...

Could this be a scam? If facebook wanted my ID to keep the account, then they'd be welcome to delete my account. I wouldn't care.
That was my first thought too, @Remy . I get phishing emails that Amazon is going to close my account but they never use my name and of course it's not true... they just phish for private information. I've gotten the same for eBay and other places. If I'd get one from FB, I'd seriously ignore it... unless I actually *did* break terms, and in that case I'd think they would put me in FB jail and not ask for a private ID. EDIT: Just researched a little, and FB can indeed ask for ID if there's risk that the account is fraudulent. So.... not really sure if I'd feel safe providing that or not.

I know what you guys mean, cybercrime is through the roof, but what I'm talking about looks legit: see the URL👇

I would not trust that enough to send them a copy of my photo ID. Maybe scammers want to use your ID. In all the years on fakebook, I have never received something like that. There has been hackers trying to get into my account and fakebook sends me an email telling me to just go to my page and do not change a thing.....unless it is me trying to change my password (which it never is).

You're nicer than I was. I sent photos of me hiding behind a RUDE hand gesture and I sent it often. I then found an old account and switched to that.

Last time, all 4 of us were on FB all accounts were hacked. When we first noticed, we believed the rules had changed. So, we read the steps to do to recover our accounts. WHOA NELLIE! They were requesting 4 birth certificates proving we were American Citizens!!!!

That's when I realised it was hacking...

We cleaned out and deleted as much as we could and changing all our emails. That was 2009...

Recently, I considered returning to Instagram. I signed into my account, updated all and did one post that I was returning. Thirty (30) days later, I was ready, went back and found myself banned without any explanations.

Went to my email account to contact them at Instagram, when I noticed a new email in my other folder. There was ranting, raving, raging and swearing from someone I'd trusted as a friend. She backstabbed me just because she was jealous. She also put my old series (which she'd bought from me, fair and square) on illegal free ebooks websites. I ended taking it down and rewriting a new series.

I'm so untrusting now, that I've only few sites on which I'm active and still I'm always doubtful 🧐

So you went through the same thing: they are trying to push this crap on certain people. Good to know they didn't start this silly experiment with me ..

So you had 14 years of fun with the social media, I wasn't quite that "lucky". What are your eBooks about?

No @Evada nearly two years from 2007 to incident in early 2009. I'm having fun here, but FB is banned and add to that Twitter too. So many immature people who think that because they're anonymous they can be so rude and getting away with it.

I'm sorry to hear you didn't get a good time either.

To answer your question, I don't want to repeat myself. Best for you @Evada to check my introduction post. Cheers!

I don't do Fakebook, or GramInstant, or Pik Pok, and I don't Twit. I have no interest in or need for any of them. However, I do get regular spam emails saying that someone tried to log into my nonexistent Fakebook account. 🤨

I'm not on Facebook or any of the others. It's just a minor inconvenience, as some local info is only available on Facebook.

The only time I had to prove who I was, was when I wanted to join a travel discussion group. I had no problem with the forum owner knowing who I was, as long as he kept it private. I had a forum username, similar to the one I use here.

Then one day I checked in to the forum, and saw my first and last name, and everyone else's first and last names, instead of our usernames. The owner said this was "more honest."

Sure, if I were going to meet "Footloose" when we both happened to be in Barcelona, I might want to know who she really was. But that's for me and her to work out between us, not a reason to put our names up for all to see.

I was totally creeped out. I deleted as many of my posts as I could, and quit the forum.

If you show your ID to Facebook today, who knows what they'll do with it tomorrow?

Agree. Once nosy forum owners (or whatever business) are messing with my privacy I'm out. The other day I tried to create an AOL email account and providing my phone # was mandatory. So I do not have an AOL email account ...

Gotcha! I've never never into vampires, witches and angels but you never know how the next pandemic (there are already cases of bird flu that jumped to humans) will rewire my brain and make me devour your books ...

I'm not a Facebook person, but can't you just create a new account? FB was always bugging me about identity, too. And, yes, it definitely was FB and not a scammer. They wanted my telephone number. I wouldn't do that, and I was frozen out of my account.
Plus, FB lost its luster. Was it really important to know care that Cousin Ernie's dog got pregnant?
