Parking Ticket at the Hospital

i got fined years ago, for parking slightly over the bay lines.....and that was only because the other car parked over his bay lines ...
i didnt pay !!

Hollydolly, I lived in England for many years, so I know the score there and I agree, you should have the same benefits. Fortunately I didn't have to make use of the NHS hospital as we had private health cover through work with BUPA. My children were born at home, so we save a few bob there :ROFLMAO:

I've just been checking up with Aberdeen city centre parking and it's just over £1 / hour and £6 a day. For evening shows etc.. it's only £1 for the whole evening (6pm - 4 am). Not bad for a city centre.
can you imagine parking in London for an evening?.. You'd have to re-mortgage your house !

I just reviewed my parking infraction ticket. The issue time of the ticket was 7:41. I parked at approximately 5:40. So the ticketing agent gave me the fine after me being one minute over my allowable parking time.

I'm going down to our local City Hall branch to discuss this with a Clerk. I'll let all of you know how it plays out.

Shame you didn't know you'd already been cited. How long could you have stayed before getting a second one???

Our hospital has a gate and a box that spits out a ticket when you go in and you pay at a booth when you leave....just like at an airport parking lot.
Don't talk about airport parking. It costs a fortune here just to drop off or Pick up. Our local airport has large off-site car parks that are an easy walk to the terminal building. You book and pay in advance. They're half the price of the on site ones.

Unlike our airports. ^^^

I live 1/2 way between 2 London airports .. neither one is near an offsite parking space.. which wouldn't involve walking on the motorway to get to the airport. It's £7 for just one minute drop off at London Stansted and up to 15 minutes.. For over 15 minutes it is £25...and if you enter again less that 30 minutes later it's a £20 charge .

At London Luton it's a £5 drop off.. up to 15 minutes..

Personally, I would contest this ticket. I would then pay it if needed, but also, I would write a letter to the editor to reveal this abuse. And contact your state representatives - they can help a lot in these types of things - you might start with them. I had my registration privileges rebuked because a parking ticket placed on a car I co-owned with my son blew away in 60 mph gusts (that I documented). After my state senator and representatives contacted the sheriffs office, I (finally) heard back and the ticket was dismissed.

Really, there should be no charge at all for family parking to see sick or dying loved ones.

At Aberdeen it's £4 for 10 mins pick up / drop off at a point that's beside the short stay car park where you get 20 mins for £4! Apparently there's 30 mins free parking at the long stay car park, but it's a shuttle bus ride away.

@Geezer, do they mark your tires with chalk so they know you’ve gone over the 2 hour time limit. They must have been watching you park and gone straight to your car.

Did you notice if lots of other people had tickets too.

Go by the rules.
That was my mom's philosophy and it still bugs me that she didn't try to fight the ticket she got for parking in handicapped parking (because we had just moved from a state where she had a handicapped license plate and the plate for the new state hadn't arrived yet and she forgot to hang up the little temporary handicapped indicator when she parked).

The hospital in my town has bad parking. It's in an older residential area. Lots of people park on the street. I guess people who live in the area and buy or rent those houses have to know about it. Including the helicopter.

I'm really sorry that happened that that's a ridiculous amount.

This is a crime. Here in the local hospitals parking is free as they are at almost all the county hospitals. In the city if you have to visit a hospital there such as Hopkins Hospital or The University of Maryland the way it works is to get into a parking garage or lot you have to get a ticket and go through a gate. Then when you leave you pay the rate for how long you stay at a machine.

@Beezer, you may or may not get the ticket amount reduced or dismissed, but the law states two hour parking. Unless you can document being there within the legal limit which was two hours, you might just have to pay the fine.

We've all taken the risk of parking over the time limit, crossing our fingers that we won't get ticketed.
Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't.

$105 is a steep ticket for overtime parking violation.

We have a blue badge (disabled ) and only ever showed this when parking in my last county…..
but where I live now, we have to pay as well……private car parks …..😣

That’s a ridiculous fine. I would fight it. Here hospitals don’t charge unless you use valet parking which I have only done in an emergency or late at night if alone.

Here's a rough draft of a letter I may submit to the Editor of my main City newspaper-

Dear Mom,

I don't know how you did it. Married nearly 64 years to Dad and you raised 5 children. You did your job, though. We can all play piano and none of us have ever been in jail. The eldest is an English Major...the second has a Communications University degree...the third a University Business degree...the youngest got her Masters in Social work.

And then there was me (the fourth) who ended up lifting boxes for a living. But although I never achieved more than a High School diploma, you always told me I was smarter than the whole lot of them put together. And you told me that because you have a heart bigger than any person I've ever known.

And this is just one of a myriad of reasons of why I stayed an extra half hour with you at the Hospital the other night. You were in pain and couldn't fall asleep. I waited until you completely dozed off and then quietly slipped out of your room.

I was a half an hour late getting to my parked car and received a parking ticket for $105.00 on my windshield.

But you know what? The extra time I spent with you was worth every penny. Because you devoted your entire life...through blood, sweat and tears to me and my siblings, and I'm forever grateful.

It was a Saturday night. There were very few cars along the stretch of road I parked on near the Hospital. I wasn't inconveniencing anybody. I do not understand why my City's agents are ticketing people who are simply visiting ill and dying loved ones. I thought my Nation's Capital was supposed to be a beacon of light to the rest of the world. Apparently not so.

The only beacon of light in all of this is an 86 year old hospitalized woman with dementia. And none of your compassionless, policy-making suits down at City Hall could ever hold a candle to my wonderful Mother.

I probably won't send this letter to my local newspaper. I have schizophrenia and having my name in the news may set me off on a path down the rabbit hole again.

I guess I just penned it to get the weight of the anger off of my chest.
