I really am useless at most. I like Mastermind and Millionaire as I can at least stand a chance at the general knowledge. But University Challenge, Only Connect - such ones are a mystery to me. I get a real sense of my own thickness!
How do such youngsters on University Challenge know so much even apart from their own subject? Our brains are capable of so much but I think I only use a fraction of mine. I'm too busy doing my housework and getting through life.
Actually, it begs the question, what IS intelligence?

Which shows do you like and can you get good at them by watching a lot?

Perhaps contestants on those quiz shows are not so much as intelligent, rather they are good at reading and memorizing facts.

Jeopardy??? I can't figure out the answers, never mind the questions. The 1970s Match Game with Gene Rayburn is more my speed. "Humpty Dumpy broke his BLANK". Yup, still watching it.

I love Only Connect.. never miss an episode.. Love Pointless , but only Celebrity versions.. Get bored with University Challenge and Mastermind.

Used to love jeopardy when we had it years ago.. but sadly we don't any longer

I was always good at quiz shows. How did I know some obscure sports fact from the 1930s? No idea.

Other people have other kinds of intelligence.

Which shows do you like and can you get good at them by watching a lot?

I liked Jeopardy! Perfectly paced. Shows like Millionaire complicate things too much.

Maybe you can get good at them by watching a lot. But once a question has been asked, it probably won't be asked again. So you have to be familiar with many useless facts. This comes from being curious about many things, and having a certain kind of memory.

In looking for questions for the trivia game I host, I learn a lot of things I didn't know before. So, when someone tries to stump me by asking which mountain peak is farthest from the center of the Earth? Pffft, easy (Chimborazo).

Especially, if it's older...that the young whipper-snappers don't know.
