How many steps a day do you do?

I have a pedometer on my phone that tracks my steps and flights of stairs. My work keeps me on my feet and moving, so I get a lot of steps in during the week, less so on the weekends which I’m working to rectify.

There are approximately 2,000 steps in a mile (.that varies obviously depending on stride length, so I’m averaging about 3 miles daily

The big number at the top of this image is my total so far today, and the bar graphs below that are a week’s worth of tracking.

I love knowing this info! Helps keep me informed about my movement, and accountable to do an acceptable amount each day!

Do you know how many steps a day you do? 91459F4F-ACDD-4061-9594-632B1F592816.jpeg

You don’t need a cellphone to be active. A pedometer is a cheap simple device that counts your steps if it’s in your pocket. Many people overestimate how many steps they get in a day. With a farm you are probably fine.

I can't imgine ever worrying about how many steps I take a day. I just work at being somewhat productive and active. Not carrying a stinkin phone around all day either.
I have no idea how many steps I take in a day. I don't carry a phone around, either... mine stays in my purse turned off for weeks at a time. I don't do phone calls and I don't do texting, so what's the use? It's a smart phone and it's a Samsung cheapie version, but I have Tracfone and buy minutes just once a year... no contract. Suits my purposes just fine. (y)

10,000 steps, in my mind!

And I don't have a phone! Prior to retirement I had jobs that required me to be on call 24/7, 365 days a year. They were great jobs for good companies, but being on call at times was a pain. I swore that I would never be that available again, after I retired.

Hmm, let me see...

Ten steps on the stairs, times 2 = 20 for getting up and going to bed...

Five bathroom breaks per day (mostly № 1's, but I'll skip all that...) = 5 x 20 = 100...

From sofa to kitchen to make pots of tea...

Plus 10%...

 🧮 🥴

Let's call it ±300

I'm worn out just thinking about it!

:D

In all reality, the NUMBER of steps is FAR less important than the actual quality of those steps and what you eat to fuel them. Just ambling around the house ain't getting it. You would get more benefit by sitting still on the floor doing yoga stretches. Counting steps is kind of laughable.

Whether you are anti-phone or not, it's good to have some kind of regular program in place to get some exercise. That could be a separate pedometer (as someone said) or just having a regular walking route and knowing how far it is.

I do carry my phone around everywhere, as much as I can remember. It wasn't much fun scooting on the unbroken hip from one end of my house to the other last year when I fell. I really wanted that cellphone to be in my pocket then but it wasn't. Not only that but I wasn't sure where it was or if I would be able to reach it from the floor. That was before I learned that another modern device (Alexa) could make my phone ring with a voice command so I could find the phone. Alexa can also make a call for someone who can't get up if programmed to do so. Fortunately, I did find the phone and I was able to hoist myself up in a chair that was close to the wall. It's good to be able to get help.

I was thankful for my devices. It was a lot better than dragging myself out on the porch to try to get the attention of a neighbor.

Those of us who care to count steps have a daily exercise routine as part of our lives. I take a brisk walk daily, own a pedal machine which is a great workout as it gets my heart rate up and of course yoga.

I don't know. On days I work, a lot. I plan to get back out walking. Ever since I had covid in November, I've been eating too much and walking too little.

I don't measure on my phone how many steps I take.. but I have 14 stairs in my house... I go up and downstairs, probably 30 times a day.. not exaggerating.. it might even be more..

I also have a treadmill which I use on average about twice a week, and walk 2 miles on it.. and I have a Garden 125 feet and most days I walk the whole length of it a couple of times to fetch things from the barn

👏Very good!!!. If you don’t mind me asking, how old are you?
I am 80.

The only fitness exercise that is giving me trouble is Yoga where balance comes into play. My flexibility is still pretty good, but those movements that require standing on one foot have gotten a bit "dicey" in the last few years. I also don't lift as heavy as I used to.

Those 3.5 years when I fought prostate cancer during my mid 70's and had zero testosterone took a lot out of me. I was still fairly muscular at 70.
