Gary Lineker

He has put his head above the parapet. What on earth is he saying about illegals and asylum and why on Twitter? Do you think he is right or wrong?
Whatever else, he has basically laid himself open to attack and will lose his job over this because he won't back down.

It is increasingly apparent that every week 'executions by media' are taking place. Soon as the media picks up on anyone they are doomed. People should remember the power of words.

GL is old enough to make his own decisions on what and where he says stuff, and I'm sure he/his agent are well acquainted with the small print of his contract. There's plenty of garbage on twitter anyway, so who cares about Lineker... unless it's a distraction from something else

Might have to rethink my choice of crisp snacks now though... :ROFLMAO:

Basically he shouldn't be involving himself in very difficult political matters like this from the position he is in, working for the BBC. Some judgment and sense is called for. Even apologising would have been better than maintaining his stance with arrogance.

I just read something by chance that Jeremy Vine once said and I think it is interesting and relevant to this matter.
He said 'at the BBC you can have values but you can't have views'.
He is a good presenter and I think this is a very wise way to proceed if you are paid by the BBC, especially as lavishly as Lineker is.

My husband works for the BBC.. as I did up until I retired.. I won't go into any detail because obviously his job is confidential., and he's bound by confidentiality rules as I was or risk his job .. but the BBC are hypocrites.. as is Jeremy Vine when it comes to it... They The BBC are driven by a right wing agenda , enough said about that on this forum

I'm sure you are right, you have the inside on it.

Well, I really can't say anything as I'm not a soccer fan, nor do I even know him. 😇 But if you have nothing to lose. It's ok to shoot your mouth off, but if you do, better think again.

That's not what a lot of people think.

I have always thought he was incredibly arrogant and have never understood why he got so much airtime.

Can it really be true that he was the BBC's highest earner, racking in £1.36 million a year?

yes he is..... but going off that for a second can you believe that Zoe Ball is second highest paid ?.. Zoe Ball..? Just ridiculous..

Zoe Ball? I had no idea she was popular tbh.
she isn't... not with the public, but she's obviously the blue eyed girl at the BBC.... can you imagine getting paid more for playing music on the radio.. and chatting to some dancers on a show about Strictly Come dancing ... clearly deserves every bit of the almost Million £££'s they're paying her compared to hard hitting journalists who risk their lives in war zones.. Jeez!!

I heard that Gary Lineker's family were immigrants from
Turkey, that is why he keeps on about it, but he shouldn't
do it publicly.

I never liked him as a presenter, he was a good footballer
though and never got a card from the referee.

Mike.

Nope they weren't Immigrants... have a look here at his family tree... they all lived in Leicester all British... going back at least 170 years

so no presenters or pundits will air the match of the day today....
Alan shearer and Ian wright pulled out of the show showing solidarity with lineker !!!

This is such a fickle world we live in.

This time next year, there will no doubt be another, fresher, more appealing presenter of Match Of The Day, probably earning much less than Lineker did and doing a better job

Watch this space. 😊

My goodness is there no other news but Linekar? I am sick of it now.
im sick of all news at the moment .....they all Talk Talk Talk .....But Say Nothing !!!!
Waste of my viewing and listening space .....😤
