California has worst service tippers in nation. Deleware the best.

I don't live in California, Delaware, or Ohio, but I always tip 20% and up.

Interesting.

The difference between Delaware, 21.8%, on the high end and California, 17.5%, at the bottom isn't really a whole lot.

And one flaw in the study is that it only considered credit card or other electronic tips. I will often times pay with a credit card but leave a tip in cash. My purchases like that would have been counted as zero tip in this survey. Maybe Californians are more like to leave cash tips?

Utah faired better than I had expected, 19.2%, near the middle. When I was younger Utahans were notorious for leaving very small or no tips, looks like that has changed.

I don't like our tipping system, I would prefer knowing the wait staff were adequately paid. You could still leave the occasional tip for truly outstanding service, but not to make sure you weren't starving someone. Even so I tip fairly generously because I know many wait staff depend on tips for most of their earnings.

I agree! Waitstaff should be paid by employers, not by patrons, who are already paying enough for their meal.

My only opportunity to tip these days is to delivery folks
that bring groceries or some times a meal to me...always a
min of 20%, however recently i've stopped ordering meals
due to new high costs of delivery charges imposed by local
restaurants...

We always tip very high. My mother was a waitress, and a good one. It's a hard job.

Also, we don't drink, so our bill is lower than if we had a few glasses of wine. I actually love wine, but my spouse doesn't drink and I'm the one doing the driving, LOL! If the service is below average I'll give them the 20%, but most servers are trying hard to please, and times are tough. Not like we can take our money with us when we 'pop off' ;)
