I predict that in 20 years....

I predict that natural resources will have dwindled to the point that the supply shortages experienced during the height of the covid-19 period will make those shortages seem tiny. Life as we know it now will seem like a life of luxury to those still alive to know the difference.

Well, One thing: Consider this:
We think AI is for our use but it might be the other way around. Consider they can manufacture themselves
multiply themselves and have ever increasing intelligence which is already intensely superior to any human.
Not just the singular robot but the synchrony of all the varied intelligences, their interaction is beyond my
capabilities to understand. What will this mean to mankind?

The incredible advancement to technology also means the demise of spirituality, of religions, of the goal to
try to expand human consciousness. I don't know the name but there will be a struggle to understand mental
interaction with the everlasting soul as it ties in with quantum physics. This will eclipse physical science.

20 years will be post WW111, so China will be the new economic leader of the world.
God does not cause the war or occurence. God wills the thoughts of man to manifest into action upon the earth.

The money will have no worth. Wealth will be despised by the common people.
A world of opulence and poverty will be even more deeply divided. When the money no longer works,
men will steal, fight and do anything for survival.

The most war-torn countries will have sufferings beyond imaginings. This will happen. War is now eminent.
This will be a most difficult era. Later, There will be one government of all nations but the masses will fight
against this for many years. This will be the giving up of freedoms for Chinese greater world power.

I have more but this is depressing enough already.

I wouldn't be surprised if we had a fascist dictator running our country in 20 years. The haves will have more and the have-nots will increase in numbers resulting in widespread unrest, protests, murders, violence, hunger, suffering... Major cities will become slums. That's the current trajectory of our country and I don't see anything stopping it in the near future... perhaps in 50 years, but not 20.

I'd like to think that the US would have high speed trains going to/from all the major cities. But, considering I moved away from the DC area decades ago and when I moved back this winter it turns out that only now was the metro train line extension being completed to some of the Virginia suburbs (and still not completed to the big international airport), I guess getting a train system as sophisticated as Europe's is at least a hundred years away.

"Consider [AI] can manufacture themselves multiply themselves and have ever increasing intelligence.."

Then they can be teachers. Imagine a teacher that isn't capable of becoming all angry and butthurt and lash out at kids when they throw slurs and spitwads.

China cannot become an economic world leader unless the rest of the world keeps buying their toys and disposable gadgets and their leader manages to stop all the corruption and money-hoarding there.. Or, unless they have a total change in leadership and become a capitalist country that makes good on its promises.

I'm pretty sure we'll still love money 20 years from now, but it might look very different....like anything from a head of cabbage to a nugget of precious metal.

The world will be more overpopulated with humans than it is now which will lead to an increase in shootings and international conflict.
Fertility rates in the developed world are declining, and are below the 2.2 children per woman which is needed to maintain a population. This fact, combined with rapidly increasing replacement of the work force and administrative duties in the developed world by AI will radically change the world as we know it. The next step for AI is sentience, or self awareness. A sentient AI may well replace humanity as the dominant intelligence on the planet and gradually reduce humans to little more than animals in a zoo.

I had no idea you didn't already have that !

Twenty years from now I'll be 99. Still be enjoying my morning coffee and afternoon beer. Still anxious for the morning wake-up to see what the day brings.

If I've learned nothing else from a life of motorsports and military involvement, optimism is essential. Esp. during the tough times.

In the next 20 years, I believe babies will all be microchipped from birth.

The reason will be for safety, but ultimately it will be forced...then the Government will be able to track your every move from cradle to grave. I'm being serious.

Also Climate Refugees will be a thing. As all of their countries burn up, they will head north to the cooler climates. Canada will be the main destination. It has the geography and resources to sustain millions of more inhabitants.

How's this for an odd scenario?

In 20 years there will be no more stores except for Walmart.
We'll all have to go to the neighborhood Walmart Clinic when sick.
We'll pay our insurance to the Walmart Insurance Company.
All commercials on TV will be for Walmart.
All cell phones will be made by subsidiaries of Walmart and the only cell phone carrier will be Walmart Cellular.
Automobiles will all be made by subsidiaries of Walmart and will have the names WM1, WM2SS, or WM3LX.
All food will be grown on Walmart farms and processed in Walmart plants.
All non-food products will be manufactured in Walmart factories.
Wall Street will no longer be in existence because Walmart will own all stock.
Politics will be abolished since national and local leaders will be chosen by the Board of Directors of Walmart.
All restaurants will be turned into a McDonald's, which will be owned by Walmart. The name McDonald's kept for historical reference.
All utility companies will be owned and operated by Walmart Gas, Power, and Water.

Maybe not too far from the truth!

Frightening as it is to admit, I know you're being serious... and I think this is a real possibility. :( @Beezer
