What are you doing today 2023

@Pepper , Now I am curious, why do you need the marihoochie, what does it help with? It is not available in my state but have often wondered if it would help my migraines and sleep issues.
Well...... actually, to be totally truthful, Blessed.... I'm a pothead going on 54 years...... Because I'm worth it . Some people started again after a long hiatus, and some never stopped.

@Kaila I am sorry to hear you are struggling. Is it just worry about the weather? It can be frightening if you are not prepared. Do you have an alternative heat source, plenty of food and water. I used to not worry about it before my husband died, now I am probably over prepared. That takes a lot of anxiety away, knowing I have everything I need if I lose power or can't get out for a few days.
Thank you, dear one. I didn't see this post, till this moment, now. I wish I would have replied here in this thread.
I have been worsening overall for about a week, even beforehand, and now I have the added anxiety of losing the power.
I am somewhat prepared, but not as much as I would be, if I was physically able to prepare a little more.
No back-up heat is allowed in my building, though, and no way to heat food or beverages or heat pads, if power is out, either. Makes everything that is already difficult, more difficult.
But I will manage, if I must. No internet either, in power outages, here either, which adds more stress for me.

I can understand why you are worried. I am lucky to be in my own home. I have a fireplace for heat and a gas grill outside where I can cook. Plenty of flashlights, candles. I keep a deep pantry of food, canned meats, veggies and fruit. I keep bottled water and sodas. I even have a little back up battery that can charge my laptop.

Just concentrate on things you do have right now. Go look and see what you have to eat that does not require cooking. Canned tuna and chicken are good to have. See what alternate lighting you have. Fill some pitchers or bowls with water for drinking. Fill the tub with water to use for flushing the toilet.

Once you get through this storm, start stocking up on those types of items for next time. You can lose power even in the spring. Make sure you have batteries for flashlights. Get some of those heat packs at the pharmacy if you need them for aches and pains.

That is how I prepared, sat and made a list of things I could need during an emergency of a few days. It will give you peace of mind in the future just knowing you are prepared.

Are you physically ill, need to see the doctor. Somethings can't wait. If you feel really bad do not hesitate to call 911 for help. I have had to do it, not fun but sometimes necessary.

DGD is adulting right and left! She texted DD this morning and reported that she passed up getting a Starbucks☕

I deserve congratulations and pats on the back and way-to-go's. This morning I updated my password list, printed a copy for me and a copy to put in my "I'm Dead. Now What?" book. I even had the presence of mind to date it. It's only been, yanno, a couple of years of scratching out old stuff and scribbling in new stuff. Most of the scribbles were nearly impossible for me to read. Oops.

So far the laundry is almost done, last load in the dryer. And I played a lot of solitaire. That leaves folding the rest of the laundry and vacuuming. Not to worry. I'm not going all in and dusting, too. Don't want to overdo.

but getting low on milk and coffee
Being low on coffee would constitute a four alarm emergency in my world!

Your post motivated me to take a quick inventory in the unopened coffee stash in my backup pantry.
5 lbs of dark roast beans for DH
4 lbs of regular ground for me
6 lbs of decaf ground - also for me.

I try to not let the decaf ground stash get below 6 lbs because Costco is sometimes out for a month or two at a time. DH & I both love coffee and drink four cups most days. One half-caff, the rest decaf for me.

Thank you @Blessed
Does the pharmacy have heat packs that do not need anything to warm them up?
I do have some of the things you mentioned, but not all of them. I have some foods and water.
Thank you for reminding me, to focus on what I do have, for now, and what I can manage to do.
It is difficult knowing what else I would definitely do, and would have prepared, but I simply cannot do.

I usually manage with my situation, fairly well, but sometimes, not, and I was already having difficulties, this week.

But thank you, your ideas and the caring of others, do help me.

Even with my laptop charged up beforehand, there's no internet connection without electricity for the modem, from the wall outlet.

My dh is a ways past 90, and I also need to try to look out for him, too. He keeps opening the frig and freezer, which will risk us losing our foods in there. I know what to do, but not physically able. To either do it, or to get him to.
Once again, I do thank you and everyone here, for your support. I need to feel less isolated, and thanks to you all, I do.

@Blessed's advice is excellent. Hope all works out well and you don't lose power. 🤗

If you think DH will open the fridge and freezer frequently, if the power goes out duct tape those doors shut and add a big reminder note saying, DON'T OPEN UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY!!!

Will your town have a warming center for those whose power goes out? You might want to look into that in advance.

Thank you @Blessed

yes the pharmacy should have little hot packs, you just kind of twist them to activate and they will stay warm for a few hours. I used to get them to take to my son's football games. I would put them in my coat pockets and I also had a pair of battery operated socks to keep my feet warm. Well aren't I silly, if the power goes out my wifi will be out. I don't even have a cell phone. When I had to call 911 I had to go to the neighbors. I would be more than happy to give you my home phone number if you need it. Do you have any close neighbors that you can reach out to in an emergency and do you have their phone number? I have been here 30 years and all the neighbors look out for each other.

I don't have one of those type of phones,
mainly because they don't work reliably from this location, and secondly, due to the high ongoing monthly charges for them. I have looked into it, a few times, but not ever had one, due to both of those issues.

My laptop will not get any internet, in a power outage, no matter how fully charged up it is.

What I do have, is a landline phone, in order to be able to call 911, if needed. That is why I still pay for that. It is more reliable than anything else, here in this spot.
But that is all it does.
Yet, I thank you for reminding me to be careful, and to use it if I must.

[...] You sound a lot like me, living alone, trying to fill the day. You do better, reading club, language partner. Have you thought about a pet of some kind.

I don't like to get out much but the senior center, library, mall are all close by. There is also a junior college that offers adult continuing education classes. You are smart, have so much to offer but if I have read it right you have been forced to move to a location that does not have many things available for seniors. Are you looking at that, if a move is possible to put you in more of a community that offers services, opportunities for seniors. Does your health allow you to volunteer in the school district or at a local hospital?
Thank you, Blessed. No pets for me, for various reasons. I did try volunteer teaching here, but that ended. Long story short, volunteering has its problems. The senior center has activities that don't interest me.

Yes, I try to fill my day, but few things really seem fulfilling. A young mother came to our last book club meeting. I could tell that it was a big deal for her to get out of the house and have some intelligent conversation. She does have a job, but I guess it doesn't fill that need.

Anyway, trying to find the right balance between being bored and feeling overwhelmed. Before moving here, I was going to live with my sister. I had reasons for changing my mind (city life), but sometimes I regret it.

I wouldn't move from this town unless forced to. I have this crazy idea that if the rent went up, I'd move from place to place in warm countries, as I don't have the income for resident status.

I'm only 70 and in pretty good health. I know that much of my problem is just my own attitude. But I feel pretty done.

I haven't read the posts today I'll go back and read them once I upload these pics...

I went to the Nail salon... but first I stopped off and collected my prescriptions.. then I took 2 bags of donations ..one of clothing, and one of Books to the Charity shop..

Then onto the nail salon. The roads into town were packed solid so I was expecting the salon to be busy because it's Mother's Day w/e this weekend as well.. but it wasn't thankfully...

After I had my nails done, I did as I was told by GiGi.. and @Blessed ... lol. and went and had a Coffee ( no muffin or scone)... :D

Then.. I did the grocery shopping at the supermarket ( Sainsbury) ... . and they had 1/2 price clothing sale on so I got a black and white striped sweatshirt... for £8..00

Now I'm home it's nearly 5.45, the sun is going down, it looks like it might rain... so I've had a cuppa tea and a donut.. being as I wasn't tempted by those chocolate Croissants at the cafe.. :p:D

But if it's not what you want, now that you've had more time since that offer, then that is okay!

I remember there were things you did not like or want.

And that wasn't your original offer, so be sure that you really can afford however much they'd gotten you to up your original offer. There will be plenty of unseen costs, to get it into the condition that you want and need it.

It's a big decision so of course, feels stressful and worrisome, but you can make the decision that's right for you. Take your best guess, and go with it.
Thank you, no your post is fine. I don't trust myself. That's the problem. I've made too many bad decisions and one was that house I bought. According to my agent (who I haven't heard back from) the seller is willing to take my offer.

There are some things I might need to change: it has those paper/cloth like accordion shades which I'm afraid my tabby will attack almost immediately. I'd prefer blinds. Maybe she would leave them alone but I'm doubtful. Anyway, I need to go look at it again.

Nice day for you @hollydolly. Your nails look nice, you had coffee, bought groceries and a sweatshirt, cuppa tea and donut after you got home, and all in spite of wall-to-wall traffic on the way into town. Yay you.

I haven't vacuumed yet, haven't folded the clothes...I'm gonna, though, I swear I'm gonna.

DD is in her office chained to her computer. DSIL gone to work. No other pets in the house now that DGD moved and took her kitty with her so the door between my place and DD's is open for Maggiecat to go exploring. She hasn't so far. What's up with that?

I thought that Marihoochie must be a friend of @Pepper from back in high school, or one who lives in the same building. 🙃😄😁
Please say hello to her from me!
☺️

I am glad that @Blessed asked that question!(y):sneaky::giggle:
And all of the other questions, too.🥰
It's nice to see the caring, along with people's replies and updates.

Glad you are improving, @Pappy
even though it is a slow improvement, for a while still.
Hopefully the Dunkin is not a long drive from home, so you can reward your wife for having watched you suffer.
:sneaky::giggle::love:

It seems to be a not-exciting and not-easy time for many of us. I too, have been struggling mightily, with multiple symptoms and anxieties....and now, there's "likely going to be power outage" with the wintery storm that is arriving this afternoon, and overnight and tomorrow.
Adding to my anxiety level.
😔😖😫
Thanks for listening. I needed to vent, after yet another terrible night.:(

The wet snow is falling, sideways, atm.

Neither the weather nor myself, seem to be sure which direction is which, today. I'm having trouble keeping track of myself.o_O😞
Kaila…..you can vent anytime…..we’re all here for listening and caring…..keep your lines open to us.
Dumb storms….time they were done.
This past weekend storm almost did me in…..dumb storms…..who was the wise guy that invented them anyway.
Take care, Kaila. 💐.

Slept for 15 hours last night

Trying to catch up on wash, errands and cooking

Will see older granddaughter this afternoon and continue reading our book

I suspect an early night again.

:: Hugs :: to all who are struggling; I read the posts, I just don't have the brain cells to address it all today =(

isn't that a little odd that your laptop won't work in a power outage even if it's fully charged ?.. simply because a power outage won't affect your internet signal.. in the same way a mobile phone will not be affected either..

What do you use to access this forum Kaila ?

Another rainy day in So Cal. This storm is supposed to hang around through late tomorrow afternoon. More expected Sunday, and next Tues and Weds.

Today is a lazy day for me. Baby was here yesterday (an oddity) then again tomorrow through Friday.

@hollydolly, if the power goes out, @Kaila's router can't power up. She could turn on her laptop but won't get an internet signal. Cellphones pick up roaming signals so they're a different story.
