Does it strike you when reading and seeing celebrities as they age on the internet

I'm 65. I look 65 and I'm ok with that. I often think about how glad I am that I'm not in a business that depends on looks.
I had to look professional when I was working but it didn't require "work".
I think the actors and actresses who have aged gracefully look the best.
I agree, look at Judi Dench.. never had a scalpel near her face... ..and I agree with @Tish about Betty White, she was still beautiful in her 90's. A lot of it is down to luck , and genes of course.

Just today the nail technician asked me what I do for a living, I told her I'm retired and she was genuinely astonished when she discovered my age.. saying she thought I was in my 50's.. it's something I get said often.. have always looked young for my age, and I'm grateful for that.. However it's what she said next that brought a wry smile because she said '' ah you must not have had any stress in your life.. you don't even have any wrinkles''.. she was wrong I do have wrinkles, but she didn't know how very wrong she was about the stress.. when in fact i've had more than most.

All that said.. I don't drink alcohol nor do I smoke., and have never taken illegal drugs . so I'm sure that helps

I'll bet you also didn't lay in the sun for hours. I did and it's showing. I've counseled my daughters and it's one of the few things they've listened to me about.
I'm glad I stopped in my thirties before I became a leather lady. 🙂

Not really. The ones who don’t age often look unnatural due to cosmetic surgery. At least it does to me.

well you'd be amazed to know I did lie in the sun quite often when I lived in Spain. It was quite usual for me to sunbathe on my roof.. (solarium) ( never really laid out on the beach).. but I always wore high factor sun lotion.

I was a sun worshipper when I was young. Most of us were at that time. I think Holly just has great genes and has always taken care of her skin and health. Some are just blessed, they don't age, gain weight or have hair issues when they get older. I am just not one of them.

Thanks Blessed.. My father looked younger than his years until the last decade of his life, and then age suddenly seemed to catch up with him. I wonder if I'll be the same , we'll have to see..

My daughter look after herself even better than me.. she's never smoked either doesn't drink.. is very into fitness , eats very little fat.. just enough for the body's needs... and of course she's inherited the young Genes. She's 47 in a month's time, and she's constantly mistaken for late 20's early 30's..

Now at 67 I do have a problem with weight gain.. particularly since my retirement was followed very quickly by almost 2 years of lockdown.. and also with my dodgy knees I don't get enough exercise as I once did.. so the weight have inevitably piled on..

I think you might be being a little hard on yourself.. 🤗

No @hollydolly I am not hard on myself, I just am. Since my husband got sick when I was 46, I stopped taking care of myself. The main focus was his and my son's care. Other things happened after and I was still taking care of others. I am now reaping the neglect but I would not change a thing.

It doesn't really strike me hard to see celebrities aging... but people I know "in real life"... that gets me. Like the three year old who locked me in the stairway when I was babysitting him a bajillion years ago. To see that little stinker as a highly decorated career air force pilot was surreal. And my "little" nieces and nephews turning 40... and having kids of their own. It's a really odd feeling.

I was just saying a similar thing last week... It's when you realise those little kids you knew are now grown and middle aged, is when it hits you just how old you are despite what your mind or the mirror tells you..

Our celebrity idols when we 10 years old were probably pushing their 30's.

So now as we hit our 50's and 60's...etc...many of them have passed away or haven't aged as well as we would have imagined. Perhaps in our minds, they are still young and fresh looking because that's how they were the last time we saw them perform in our own youth. So it can be shocking to see pictures of your elderly childhood heroes...reminds us all how father time waits for no one...including ourselves.

It is sad to me when beautiful women get extreme plastic surgery and distort their faces. It is nice to see some who take a more moderate approach and still look like an older version of themselves.

I guess genetics have something to do with it as well.

It does make me a bit sad when I see someone that has been in the limelight and has aged badly because it reminds me of my own mortality. Don't we all want to see our idols remain as we remember them in their heyday?

I can remember my father saying in his later years that when he’d look into the mirror, he’d see some old man looking back, and think, that’s not me. Parkinson’s disease gradually stripped him away one layer at a time thereafter in a cruel and dehumanizing fashion, but the memories of him that I most recall are those of when he was fully himself.

People who define themselves in terms of their body and physical appearance tend to have a rough time with aging, which sadly in western societies tends to be regarded as vaguely shameful. It’s all just part of the human journey, really…

It could be that one just has a better surgeon.
Although I think Michelle has had minimum work if any.

Bruce Willis just learned recently, that his illness is Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) and Lewy Body Dementia- One of the hardest things to process is the slow change in the one you love. Becoming a completely different person. Everything changes.

Just so you know...
😢
It’s called the long goodbye. Rapidly shrinking brain is how a doctor described it. As the patient's brain slowly dies, they change physically and eventually forget who their loved ones are and become less themselves.

Patients can eventually become bedridden, unable to move and unable to eat or drink or talk to their loved ones.

There will be people who will scroll by this message because Dementia or Alzheimer's has not touched them. They may not know what it's like to have a loved one who has fought or is fighting a battle against Dementia or Alzheimer's.

In an effort to raise awareness of this cruel disease.
I feel so bad about Brucie, as I call him. It was shocking to hear that he suffered that illness. His wife issued a heartfelt plea to fans to please just leave him be when he's out and about...give him his space. She cited the difficulties caregivers face when caring for loved ones with dementia. I've experienced what she's talking about. Also gotta love Dolly. :ROFLMAO:

As for the OP, yes @Blessed it does strike me to see my favorite celebrities age. Among them are Jeff Bridges, Frankie Beverly (of Maze), Joe Mantegna (Criminal Minds) and Sam Champion (ABC meteorologist). Something in the back of my mind says these favorites should not be aging. But of course, as you mention, that speaks to facing up to the fact that I'm aging too.

I’m 67, and defiantly feel my age now …..with all the caring and worry,
but as you know I wouldn’t have it any other way…..
hubby celebrated his 80th birthday last week….he still looks great and very distinguished with age …

when he had the stroke , I was 57 and he was 69……
it seemed a bigger gap then with looks …..
the nurses and drs thought I was his daughter…..😵‍💫🤫 😀
but now , I feel like his mother …..😀😀😀

When actress Zsa Zsa Gabor turned 90 years old my joke at the time was...

"Zsa Zsa Gabor just turned 90 years old today!...And in 2 months her new face will turn 10!

I haven't colored my hair in almost a year but I bought several shades of hair color. I don't know if I want to bother any more but I used to feel better when I colored my hair. I rarely wear makeup but it makes me feel better when I put a little on.

As for aging It's been a struggle for me too. When I look in the mirror I put a smile on my face and look better that way I see believe.

I see nothing wrong with going natural or putting a little enhancing makeup on. When it's overdone that's when it looks strange.
@Ruthanne You might want to give root dyes a go. I have fair hair and not much grey so I just keep some root covers and use them when I spot any grey bits. You mix it, brush it on the grey and leave it for 10-15 minutes, rinse and go. If you have grey roots to cover, just paint along the parting. You can choose the one which is nearest to your hair colour. There are several makes and lots of shops have 2 packs for £9.

It seems we all have a hard time of adjusting to our new reality. We may still feel we are the same physically but in reality we have aged. It doesn't bother me except when I look in the mirror. When I am out and about, talking to others in public, in my head I am still young. Then, I get home, if I pass a mirror I am like holy crap, when did that happen. I was reading an article about Gweneth Paltrow, who is 50 now. What was shocking is that she looks fifty without all the glam squads that normally transform them into something different. It gives me, sad to say, age comes to all, you either accept it or try to fight it and look silly.

I just accept it, no longer color my hair, no longer wear makeup other than special events. Most of all I have learned that there are just some types of clothing and shoes don't belong in my life any longer. God bless those ladies that can still pull off short or no sleeves, fitted dresses and form fitting jeans. I won't even discuss shoes with heels. I am jealous, I see that older ladies that are , I just don't happen to be one. How do you feel about the physical aging process and how do you deal with it?

I think it's up to the individual to do what's right for them. I'd feel lousy physically if I looked lousy everyday as dumb as that may sound to some. We all have a self concept. I still work and am in public and I'm actually learning face yoga which can help keep faces younger looking without cosmetic surgery and I hope to be approved to teach this to others soon because the possibilities excite me. There really is no right or wrong. Who are we to judge? :)

Never been an adult paying attention to celebrity news or magazines so about all I ever see is when occasionally watching TV or movies where they are of course make-uped and groomed. But yeah even looking at thumbnails on news, it is obvious how the well known have oh so sadly aged that relfects our own certain coming doom. Getting old and worse dying is very much on my mind for this person that want's neither. I immensely love our universe of creation and want to exist forever. Although my outward appearance aging rate may be in the dot point percentage versus others, I do feel it and know with certainty that it is just a matter of time when the same befalls me. A prime reason I choose to seek God's salvation through his son Jesus that promises eternal life.

For all you doubters and ignorant, I'll challenge you to read this. Don't want to die forever into non-existence? The clearest statements in either the Old or new Testament about the certainty of that eternal life promise are throughout the Gospel of John. Possibly the only truly fully inspired book in the Bible.

It’s the circle of life and no getting around it. I still color my hair but rarely wear makeup. Losing 9 friends has really brought home that life is short. So many celebrities look hideous from all the surgeries. I am focusing on doing and seeing the things still on my bucket list and not having any regrets.
