Credit Cards/Debit cards. Cash. Checks...

LadyEmeraude

on vacation, back in September.
I always carry a small amount of cash, and always carry 'one' credit card in my wallet.
Life long habit. How about you?

I only carry cash unless I'm going to the bank to withdraw money. I refuse to shop at the stores which only take cards. We must keep the option open for cash.
Same here, cash is king. My debit card is simply for withdrawing cash from an ATM. There is no loyalty card in my wallet, nor will there ever be. Like debit and credit cards, loyalty cards primary function is to harvest the holders spending habits, from that a profile is made, a profile which can be traded. My habit of cash purchasing has had results in that I am never plagued by sales canvassers. No texts, no emails, no glossy flyers in the mail, nothing. I don't exist.

i now leave my debit and credit cards at home and use my phone for most payments when out and about. It's easy for someone to use one of my cards before I have a chance to cancel them should I lose my wallet (which I did three years ago). Should I lose my phone, no one can use my cards connected to it unless someone happens to chop off one of my fingers to unlock it !

I understand what you are doing and why, but what bothers me, is that is one thing I am sure they are looking at for a digital wallet, so they are going to think they can get us all off cash, and then are able to control us easier...

I always try to have cash on me, plus in my wallet are two credit cards, and a debit card... But I still try to pay with cash... It's not just our buying power we will lose, but it will stop us from buying things @ garage sales or paying to have work done, the Government will know exactly what we are doing from minute to minute...

I agree ! I do carry cash also and I think it is wrong for establishments not to accept cash. It goes against having our trust in the US dollar which is a dangerous thing. On the flip side, there is a very popular breakfast spot down the road from me that only accepts cash. There is an ATM machine located right inside the entrance. I have no issues with that but like I said, I do have issues with places that don't accept cash at all.

On a side note, I went to an independent coffee shop a year ago in California and they did not accept cash as payment but they did have a tip jar next to the register for tips. Major contradiction to me.

I usually shop with cash. I still have a check book. I remember years ago writing checks at the grocery store or Walmart, but I make all those purchases with cash only. I shop at thrift stores, so I try to make sure I have small bills for the local volunteer shops like PAWS.

I was issued a debit card years ago but I don't carry it. I have heard they are trying to make those safer, like credit cards. I have two major credit cards. I use the main one online some. (prefer to shop with my Paypal account, but my credit card is on Amazon) Car work a few weeks ago, put that on credit, pay my insurance online now with the credit card. My second credit card is kind of a back up. I usually use it at the dentist so it gets use and not canceled.

Two credit cards and some cash. Almost never have coins anymore, just bills. I rarely use the cash for retail transactions. Two credit cards incase one has a problem.
This is why I got a second credit card. I had just one for years. But it got shut down by the company. I was informed of this through the mail and they were issuing me another immediately. They were on it. But I thought 'what if I was about to take a trip and didn't have the card?' So I got another through my bank as backup. That's the one I don't use much.

Credit card companies seem to know when something is legit or not. I've used my credit card to buy online in a foreign country. No problem. It was a legit business.

debit card, credit card , and cash ...i hardly use cash now, as not many places like it , since covid years ,when we were not allowed to use it ....
I have no heard of anyplace in my area that does not take cash. I've heard of places that are cashless in San Francisco. I'm in a larger town but not a city. We've had self check outs temporarily not take cash in some stores. I'd be lost without cash. I'd have to get used to it I guess.

Cards and cash, in my pocket. But one thing that is different from how things used to be is I no longer carry a checkbook. I have one and I occasionally write a check but always from home for some bill that I don't normally have, maybe a handyman, the weed guy, etc. I keep a little cash for snow shovelers and that kind of thing.

I always pay the man who cuts my hair in cash. They are a small salon and credit card services cost them. I also prefer to tip at restaurants in cash, when possible.

I don't know of any place that doesn't take cash here either but I know Amazon had some stores like that in some cities but they may have closed.

I pay almost everything with a credit card, but I like to have some cash in my wallet. Years ago I stopped for gas, pulled into the station (I knew there wasn't another one close by) and their machines were down - only cash accepted.

My CC, family CC, my debit/bank card and store card. Very little cash and some change. If a store only accepts debit or cash, I’m unlikely to shop there unless they have something special I really need.

I may set up and try my cc on my phone as an emergency backup when I leave my purse at home. Not sure how I feel about it. It’s easier to just tap a card.

Mainly a cash person.

Carry one credit card mostly for online purchases (mostly Amazon), reservation travel lodging, and Walmart purchases. Bank card for gas. Checks from low balance account for paying mail in bills and a few in wallet for back up. Plenty of cash in wallet pays for most else, especially at supermarkets. Rarely Paypal for ebay from low balance.

I mostly use a credit card (the one that gives me the most points back), but since I retired I've found some cash useful (my first week of my trip I discovered cash was vital -- when my credit card unexpectedly got a fraud hold and I needed money for the bus and train to return from downtown Chicago to my hotel), and since moving to my condo and joining a bunch of clubs here in the retirement community, I've found I need to write checks a number of times. I wish these clubs would have an easier payment options, but I guess too many old people to modernize, ha ha.
