Thinking about changes in life and technology

I was sitting here last night, thinking how much things have changed in my life... And what I mean by changing, like twenty years ago, if that long ago, But getting on an XT or a 286 IBM clone computer, and signing on what this place used to be called, but a BBS. I would have got on my dial-up modem or a 2400 modem. And a lot of people are doing it on their phones now. Or having a conversation with someone on their phone, or being miles away from their home, and someone rings their doorbell, and they look at their wrist and see who is standing at their door.

It's quite remarkable what technology has done for us. I was reading an article where there is a store, but I am unsure where it is now... But as you put your groceries in your cart, it adds up the food and cost as you walk through the store. You walk up to the cashier as you leave the store, pay, and leave. I got all upset when I saw the self-checkout grocery and drug stores. It upset me because these machines are taking people's work. Not only do I have to walk around the store, I then have to run them through the cashier-less aisles, stuff my money in the machine, and then YES, pack my groceries. Why am I paying high prices for my groceries? Hell, I am doing all the work, and they are reaping the money while I do all this. For this reason, I refuse to go through these cashier-less aisles.

Life as most of us is changing, and nobody is really kicking up a fuzz about it. You and I are doing more for ourselves in life, and we are paying more money for it. Or you go on a busy day, and there are lineups for the very few cashiers they have working, and have 10 or 15 cashiers - fewer aisles. And they try to push you down those aisles. I refuse to be pushed in one of that aisles, and if they push too hard, I will walk away from the cart, and right out of the store.

I don't believe or think they should be allowed to push us in ways they save money on our hides... These big companies are laying people off and making machines more adapted to take our money. Including those carts, which I mentioned back at the beginning of this article. Machines and Robots are taking us over, and this guy is going to keep going the long way of doing things the way I enjoy. What happens when we have no more cash... and we are in a digital society. Imagine the way they will control us then. Oh, I am sorry Mr. or Mrs so and so. You can not afford that, or you can't have that because we say so, and those days are coming if we don't try and fight back.

I wish I had noticed the way our governments were taking us years back. It's not going for a good thing. Yes, some people will think it's a great thing like when the debit card came out or how they are saying, here, you qualify for this credit card. No paperwork is needed, you have been approved already for this amount... Have YOU not wondered why most if not three-quarters of credit cards end on the 1st of 2025? That is sure buzzing around in my head.

I am sorry for going on and on... But the way the world is heading, and how they are getting us to do as they want as a bunch of robots bother me BIG time... I know I am not going to win this fight, but I will drag it out as long as I can then be run, and treated like a robot. I refuse to go down this path. Not just yet anyways.

There are lots I would like to talk about in today's changes, but may already have lost you in this story or bored you silly... But if you did get this far, let me know what your beliefs and thoughts are... I am interested...
Cheers~

I had a conversation with someone this morning who voiced your exact opinions and feels AI is the greatest threat to mankind. I wonder if it's AI or those who program AI? I go down this path a lot too and NEVER use self checkout anymore for the same reasons as you besides I have friends at my favorite grocery store who need their jobs. I heard yesterday that in 1971 70% of the population was middles class. Now it's 50%. This should worry people.

Mike, I completely agree with you. They try to push us into total control by AI. The European Union wants to install a central bank digital currency and remove all banknotes and coins. In Germany the bank accounts of some investigative journalists already got terminated. Without money you are 'Mr. Nothing'.
I avoid cashier-less aisles and pay with notes and coins.

if nothing else..I really think people should take more notice of the threat of a Cashless society..and use cash wherever possible..

It's true that once we become a Cashless society , the banks and the government own you... and have complete and utter control...

@mike4lorie, this is a great topic. :)

I'm a bit of a techie but only to a point. For example there are so many ways that technology helps seniors and I get a bit impatient with those that want no part of any of it. Of course, I don't say that to anyone.

On the other hand I am concerned about AI and the nefarious ways that big tech and our government are likely to use it.

I don't like self check-out but use it when I have to.

I wish I had noticed the way our governments were taking us years back. It's not going for a good thing. No, I don't know about that. The one here on my desk ends in 25 and I have another that ends in 27. But, tell me more, please.

I do think this will used to control people but I no longer try to explain something like this to anyone who thinks it's a joke and there are a lot who do.

Post WWII, was an era of great change-TV, 4 lane highways, jets, malls and suburbs. And we grew up using them., and made them part of our lives. That was a half century ago, and technology kept growing and flowering. Today's kids are going to grow up using today's technology, and making it part of their lives. The past is always rosy and misty warm, despite reality. It's not easy living through the changes. As to being controlled, being civilized means giving up certain freedoms, for the security of the herd. The more one relies on others, the more freedom one looses.
Also, in a cashless society, it'll be real hard to rob a bank.
I can barely use my phone, when I have to do an involved thing, I give it to a under age 25. person Their little fingers are just whizzing along, they have grown up with iPhones. It's such a normal part of their lives.

My only addition is this: Enjoy your life. Teach your children and grandchildren to enjoy their lives.
Take things day by day. Go outside!
Fuzzy buddy is right. Each generation grows up with the changes and adapts. AI is giving us many things, some good, some bad.
It's scary. In1925 when they were inventing television I'm sure people thought it was the end. I guess you could consider it was the beginning of the end but there's been a lot of life in between.
If I can't control something...... well, I do the best I can.

That's deep Mike .... As you said, things continue to change as they will, and we are all just pawns in the whole scheme of things.

As I used to tell my late husband, thinking too much gives me a headache.
... and we both laughed.

Maybe prices keep increasing in order to cover unemployment benefits and all that goes with it, i.e., healthcare programs, food programs, etc.. Inflation is created by governments as a way to maintain their country's economic growth and development, and it can be a good thing ...until it gets out of control.
