How Quickly We Get Used to Stuff: Doing Without Internet

So all day tomorrow--at least all day; I'm not optimistic--we're gonna be without internet because they're upgrading. So no internet, tv, or house phone. They say they should finish it all up in one day but going by their track record in the past...sigh. We sure get used to this stuff, don't we?

To NOT miss it all...
How 'bout..treat yourself..with a 'day out'..
shopping..not necessary..to buy anything.. sometimes just looking..can be fun.
But..if you can't do without the internet..
Head to the local library.
Just..enjoy your day..whatever🤗
Well, I am going to have a day out but it'll be a doctor's appointment and grocery shopping, lol. And I've got a bunch of books on my Kindle and a jigsaw puzzle so I'll actually be okay. Funny how we get so used to stuff, though.

It took about 7 to 8 hours here also
In fact in total it took about 4 weeks
They had to do it in stages . One day they put the cables through and later had to connect it to the other end. We had internet in between but it was very weird not having it for 8 hours. I’m used to checking the weather and email at certain times of the day.
I can relate to the anxiety

wel we've had most of those for a large chunk of our lives if not all in some case..TV..all my life.. Internet ( computer ) 30 years ..house phone again all my life... so it would be natural to feel all at sea without them , they are all our major forms of communication and Entertainment

Yeah Officer. I don't like it when my internet isn't working, which really hasn't happened since I dropped Optimum. How did it work out. Were they finished in the timeframe you were promised?

The only times I have had my internet down was when we had a power outage. Since I moved here five years ago, I have become accustomed to being able to turn the computer on whenever I get up in the morning (or if I can't sleep for some reason).

I had problems with broadband dropping out all the time so now I use a sim card to create Wifi - they call it Mifi - and for me that gives better wifi than I ever got from any broadband we had. So if you use your phone as a hotspot you can get pretty decent wifi.

I've never heard of that method (Mifi) before Lula. I have MetroPCS and their hotspot is awesome. I don't need to use it when I'm home but it has never let me down when I'm out and about or on vacation.

You can always use your phone as a hotspot
True but I have to walk about a block down the road with my phone to get WiFi with it and if it's raining or 100 degrees...sigh.

Yeah, they got finished in the timeframe they promised but my internet wouldn't come back up. I contacted them and they had me try that good ol' unplug, wait and plug back in thing several times but still nothing; they said "hmm, yeah okay, there's a problem, gonna have to send a technician out, first time we can get a tech out is this Sat., want that appointment?" I said okay, I can't dance. :ROFLMAO: Then yesterday (Fri.) evening, after watching a dvd and then turning the dvd player off, instead of an error message on the tv, I had a channel. And I had internet on our phones; so I went in and unplugged and plugged back in the modem for the millionth time and now everything's working. (I figure that somebody on their end finally noticed, "Whoopsie, we forgot to flip that back on after the upgrade" and finally flipped whatever it was back on; that's happened before with this company, sigh.)

I really am glad it's back up; as katlupe says, I've gotten so used to relying on it, I too flip the computer on when I first get up in the morning and am on it frequently throughout the day.
