Missing SS 1099, can't complete tax returns

I was getting our tax documents collected up for our appointment to get the 2022 tax returns prepared, and discovered that wife didn't get her Social Security 1099, so I figured I'd just use the log-on set up for the SSA Online Services. Nope! The website wouldn't recognize the username or password, after 3 attempts at logging in, the website LOCKED the account for 24 hours. I double and triple-checked the user name and password, and tried again after waiting 24 hours. Nope, no dice!
Getting Social Security on the phone is, as their phone menu thing said- IMPOSSIBLE. Going to the Social Security seems our only recourse, and as the phone menu thing mentioned- we may not get served the same day!

Maybe I should just file for an extension as there's only 20 days left, and this is getting unimaginably ugly! 🤬🤬🤬

Here is what you can do: You should know what the net payment to your wife is. If you and your wife have the same options, look at your 1099 and get the numbers there.
Make a copy of your 1099, change the name and SS# to your wife's and write in the net amount she received.

I could get the net amounts she recieved from out bank account easy enough. Let's see if our tax preparer will go along with that idea,

I have noticed that sites like SS, Medicare, and other government sites including pension do not let you log in after a certain amount of time. My husband noticed the same thing. Each time I check on a pension, I have to do "forgot password" and go through the security of receiving a code by text and changing the password.
I anticipate the process now.

It's only a 24 hour delay, nothing to stress over. Give everything you have to your tax person so they can get started, calculate her SS for now. Tomorrow when the SSA site is unlocked you can create a new password and then print the 1099.

That makes the most sense to me.
Well the first lockout was yesterday, and I did wait the 24 hours before attempting to login today. The only user name and password that was ever created for the SSA account does not work. Again, locked out.
I talked to my tax preparer, she might be able to work some magic joojoo for us tomorrow.

I wondered if you could file an estimated one, if need be, rather than for an extension;
but i assume your tax preparer will have some good suggestions, for your very frustrating experience, Nathan.

Yes, getting into the Social Security site is like getting into a bank vault. My cousin signed up my mother when she was alive and then forgot the sign-in credentials. :( I could never get in and had to call SS with my mother on the phone, like they could verify it was really her!

Met with tax preparer yesterday, and yea- she said we gotta have that 1099 from Social Security. so, this morning we were just about to leave the house, prepared to spend X # of hours at the SS office when, at the last minute I decided to give another stab at logging on to the Social Security site. Success! Just had to jump through the "change password" hoops...got the 1099 printed!

However, in reviewing my tax files I discovered that I do not have the [*****]ing 1099 for the 2021 state tax refund. 🤬  The California State Franchise Tax Board website is the most hateful, ignorant website ever designed, maybe even worse that the CA. DMV website.
...here we go again.

Good news, my tax preparer says we don't need that! So, "happy hour" this evening will truly be a happy thing rather than a 'medicinal' thing. ;)

I was feeling bad for you but just saw your update about not needing the form. I couldn't find my SS 1099R or Prudential 1099 Div forms. I'm sure I put them where I thought I'd be able to put my hands right on them but I should have put them where I usually do. Anyway, thankfully, I was able to access the forms online with no problem. Just finished my taxes about a half hour ago.

I live in Canada and getting to Revenue Canada is your worst nightmare. I can't log into my account since they have an old phone number that I no longer have and I can't change my phone number. Phone them you say! Ha, ha, ha! You want to stay on the line for 3 hours and then be cut off and told to try again tomorrow. Technology is great.....NOT! If you ask me, we are regressing as a society; not progressing in some aspects. Revenue Canada is a great example of regression.

They say 10% of all Canadians never even do their taxes. I don't blame them!
