Like most kids, when I was in High School, I valued the time I got to sleep, as it seemed like I could never get enough of it. Early one morning on a school day, around 6am, my dad came in and shook me awake, telling me I had a phone call. As I struggled to get out of bed and find my robe. As I left my room, I noticed my dad going back to his bedroom.
I finally got myself together and struggled out to the kitchen where the phone was on the wall. The phone was hung up, I grabbed it thinking maybe they were still on the line, who would be calling me at 6am, I wondered. But no, just a dial tone...no one on the phone. I stormed back to my parent's room, knocking on the door asking my dad, though the door "why he hung up" on my call. Then I heard both mom and dad laughing, and then dad said happy April fool's day!
I used this April fool's day routine on all three of my kids during their Senior Year of High School. It worked every time, I made it clear to the 'oldest' they better not warn their siblings. And they did not!
Finally, on the first Monday, after my dad retired, I was married living a few hours away. I got up early that morning and gave my dad a call, at 6am. When he answered, I wished him a happy retirement and hung up.....Turn around is fair play!
