What does “trebled” mean?

Gas rates here have increased a great deal, last year winter average was $90 - $100 and now $149

Electric, still about the same for winter but I know that when the air conditioning goes on that bill will go up too.

I have gas heat and electric air conditioning. My costs have doubled for gas for the last few months of winter but I like it cold so I did not run the heat as often as others. I am on a contract now for my electric, I think it is 7.5 per kwh, the bill for now has been fine. My contract runs until July. I am sure it will go up so I will have to do the research to find the best rate. The company I have is the best price I have found for a 20 years. I would prefer to stay with them.

I track by rolling 12 month, and it is $110 currently. It is up 10.5% over the year, but I upped the overnight setting by 4°F, for this winter.

Like many in rural communities with no mains gas, most people here use oil. The price of oil has fluctuated wildly over the years and has been higher in the past. The alternative fuel payment will cushion the cost of electricity for another 3 months after which it will be virtually double it's old value. (£59 up to £105 a month). We top up the oil twice a year (about 1500 ltrs a year) and buy soft and hard wood (2 cubic mtr. load) as necessary.

I'm in an upstairs apartment that doesn't get the afternoon sun in the summer. I'm conservative with both heat and cooling. And the bills are just going up and up.

It‘s hard to compare gas prices and consumption varies by the type of winter we have. This year it was cold.

I believe trebled is more commonly used in the UK. In Canada, we say tripled, but I do know both.

Anyway ... in my apartment, I pay for electricity (but not heat). My recent bills were about the same as last year.

In Canada, 60% of our electricity is from hydro power, followed by nuclear power (using Canadian uranium) and natural gas. So we aren't as effected by ... whatever.

Was nt you taught triple and treble at school NL ?
No.

Two years ago they finally put a gas supply line down my road so I considered switching from propane to gas. Propane use over a ten year period ended up at $83 a month. The hook up and conversion to natural gas would have been about $5k so I stayed with propane.

So anyway;
Propane is around $83 a month
Electric average is about $60 a month.
Not too bad.
