I learned something

I am still receiving mail for the former owners of my house, so when I saw the mail truck go by, I waited for the driver to go on the other side (he always does my side first). I handed him the mail and he said it was third class and I could just throw it away. I asked how I could tell if it was third class (the one I got yesterday looked like a check). He pointed out something in the the postmark. I said I had put in a request to stop the other people's mail and he said that it didn't apply to third class and it was no Federal crime to dispose of someone else's third class mail.

IN the UK if you dispose of someone's elses mail or interfere with it in any way... it's a criminal offence...

Yes, third class is of low importance. Usually flyers, promotions and franked mail (Which is mail sent by political office holders during re-election)

I wish there was a way to soften it and use it for a worthwhile application....🤣🤣🤣

It makes a lot of extra work for the postal workers to deliver mail that will immediately be placed in the recycle bin. :(
They do get paid either delivering 1 letter, 19 or 100.

Reminds me when I'd been 3 years out of bankruptcy. I applied with a credit card company and was turned down. This being 1998 and I've got a bit of a petulant streak.

So. I reapplied, but kept clicking the "submit" button like crazy. Needless to say, the postal worker was bringing 5-22 rejections (even though I know I clicked way more, 22 was the max I got) for several days in advance!!

This went on for a few months. Finally quit, but had garnered over 500 rejections. 🤪🤪

As long as USPS..is making money off it..(3rd class)
They will continue to deliver..to our dismay 😖

I have asked my postal deliverer..not to..
And..was told..they have to deliver everything that's given to them.

Yes, it's true that they're required to, but if you make friends with your postal deliverer, he or she just might do you a favor. When we used to go away for 4-5 months at a time, we had relatives who would come by every couple of weeks and pick up the mail out of the neighborhood box. The box would get really full sometimes. I told the postman one day that we were getting ready to leave and he said, well, on the quiet, I'll toss your junk mail for you. And he did, most of the time.

They don't get paid by the piece, and 100 takes a lot more work than 1....

@jujube..you are 'lucky' that the P.O.driver would do that..
as, who knows, who would report any deviation of the rules.

For doing me a favor, once..I tried to 'tip'... wouldn't take.

We have lived here almost 18 years and still get the odd bit of mail for the previous owner. Now we know where she is, so a quick phone call will do next time something comes for her.

Yes, rural carriers do get paid by the piece. Every couple of years they have a mail count conducted for about 3 weeks. This lets them know when new carriers are needed to get the mail delivered in their area. The salary for rural carriers is based on the amount of mail/work for each route. My husband was a rural mail carrier so I was well schooled on mail counts.

Mine disagrees with you. Yes I asked him.

But, that's what happens to it anyway. Few actually open it, and those that do surely don't read any of it...

When I walk back to the house from our mailbox I pass by our outdoor trash bin. I ALWAYS stop and throw out the 'trash mail'!

In googling...@Blessed...right..
Route is evaluated.
They have a different..their own Agreement with USPS.(Check it out)
Interesting!

Thanks so much for your investigation. I did not post a reply because if I say something I know to be true it does not make sense to try to validate it.
