Great thread! Here are some of mine.

Soul:
Lisa Fischer, Luther Vandross, Bruno Mars, Teena Marie, Lisa Stansfield, Barry White, Teddy Pendergrass, John Legend, Donna Summer, Stephanie Mills, Aretha Franklin

Rock/Ballads:
Pat Benatar, Stevie Nicks, Bono from U2, Adele, Kate Bush, Dave Gahan from Depeche Mode, Debbie Harry from Blondie, Richard Marx, Brian Adams, Kelly Clarkson, Anne Wilson from Heart

Opera:
Andrea Bocelli

My last one here.

Like or loathe him, as some seem to, I like his unique vocal style that blends raw power and emotion. A grittiness and roughness?

As for the song. Think UK 1984/1985 coal miners strike, and the effect it had on some couples and families. Along with some other social implications, and also father against son, strikers vs non strikers. The song was written because of that, and more.

Who could loathe Bono? He has a fantastic, gritty, magical voice that has kept U2 relevant through the ages. He was much more philanthropic in the mid-2000's but now he seems to be sitting on his money. In any case, I would attend a U2 concert in a heartbeat.

I like your taste in music.
Years ago Celine Dion sang with Andrea Bocelli and I hadn’t heard of him before.
This was a big show and I was a Celine Dion fan since she was from Canada.

Anyway I watched these two sing together and thought it sounded beautiful but it didn’t look like they were connecting with each other like most harmonizing vocalists do. When my husband came home the same show was on again on another channel so I showed him how Andrea wasn’t really connecting right or making eye contact. My husband took one glance snd said…. No! That’s because he’s blind. 😝 lol. I felt like such a fool.

:) My taste in music is very varied. Don’t see the point in just following one genre; that would seem so two dimensional.

Yes, he lost his sight when he was young. Not sure now whether it was due to an accident or a disease, or both?

I like him, many people don't. Some don't like some of the things he does, says, and gets involved with. He admits he’s done and said some stupid things, but haven’t we all. Some of what he does and says is in counter to his chosen profession, one that isn’t always based in reality I suppose.

I’ve always liked Paul Weller’s voice, and songs, from the various bands he’s been in, and as a solo artist. Some songs very different from each other. I grew up with this stuff. As we wondered whether the bomb is about to be dropped

Thank you Doug. That's quite a list of talent. I did speak with my BFF again.. She did play for the Crystals back in the day when Lisa Fischer was a member of the group. They were on tour and Lisa was just starting out. My BFF said everyone on the tour knew she had "it" and would be a star. Here's an interesting article I found about her beginnings. In fact I think my BFF would like to read it too, so I'll email it to her. Lisa sang background for a lot of people!

@timoc Sarah and Billy...those were among my husband's favorites.

Sade, pronounced Shaa-day. Good choose @Gary O' I have a couple of her albums, somewhere. Reminds me of being in a night club with a girlfriend. Towards the end of the night, in a quiet room away from eveyone who is still on the dancefloor, and just chilling to some soothing music.
Sade was one of my favorites too. My oldest grandson and I were just talking about her yesterday. She's a favorite for him too.

@seadoug I never took the time to get into Regina Belle but I know a lot of people who love her singing. Gino Vanelli...I Just Wanna Stop..still does it for me.

Neil Diamond, Marvin Gaye, Barbra Streisand, Tom Jones... all 'Pop' singers who could/can actually sing without any help .... ask any one of those 4 to sing from a standing start..no music, no electronic aids ( Cher I'm talking to you )>.. they will sound just as good as with their music or instruments

Thank you for the article! So her inspiration was Luther. My two first choices. From her interviews, she seems to be a really fun, approachable person as well.

You're welcome, of course. Funny how that works. Bette Midler helped get Luther started and he payed it forward with Lisa.
