Dozens of people were reportedly trapped after the floor of a parking garage collapsed on to another leaving cars piled up in New York City on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred at 57 Ann Street between Nassau Street and William Street in lower Manhattan.

Video showing the initial aftermath of the featured a woman screaming: 'Get out!'

There are initial reports of three injuries, two minor, one serious but not life-threatening, reports NBC New York.

The floors of the building collapsed around 4:15 pm resulting in dozens of injuries. Video from the scene showed destroyed concrete after one floor of the building fell on to another.

Online records show that the address is the location of Enterprise Ann Parking.

Mayor Eric Adams has been briefed on the situation. The location of the parking garage is close to New York City Hall. A press release advised New Yorkers to expect delays on the evening commute.

At the time of writing, firefighters have been unable to enter the building because it could collapse further.

Hope no fatalities.

Looking at the pictures I don't see rebar near where collapsed floor was. Floor not attached to side in any fashion?

Firefighters were initially unable to enter the building due to its instability

An Ann Street resident told DailyMail.com: ‘The building looked unsound for years, like a converted residential structure with no additional structural supports, even though the cars were packed onto every floor and the roof, the walls seemed bent and winding outwards. By sight alone it seemed unsound.’

Bet they'll find a lot of code violations or "Not built to spec"
Yep, building inspector was probably one of Tony Soprano's guys...
Hope no fatalities.

Thanks for pointing that out, it does seem odd. It will be a while before we have a good idea as to cause, but this is certainly something that should be investigated!

Wow...this is the first I'm being made aware of this. It will probably be on World News Tonight which I can't watch until about midnight via Hulu. That's terrible and it will be a miracle if there are no deaths. HD..how in the heck do you so often get our news before we do?!!

Ann Street.
I remember Ann Street from my days living in Manhattan. I spent a lot of time in lower Manhattan. There's a lot of these small and narrow streets around that area.

This type of incident may happen more frequently in the future in crowded urban areas. Many of these garages we built decades ago, and as the concrete ages and begins to crack, water can seep into these cracks and rust the rebar, and when cold weather arrives, this water will freeze, and crack the concrete even more. Then as people transition to EV's....which often weigh more than IC cars, the stress on the buildings will increase even more.

Heard on the news there might have been too many vehicles on the top level and there were several outstanding violations.
