At first I had a bit of a problem when the story abruptly left Helena, whose story fascinated me, and started that of Aristotle, since I like to stay with a character throughout a book. Many books will switch characters from chapter to chapter and that's okay because the characters always move in the same setting. This book was different, but I quickly got used to it because the story of both Helena's and Aristotle's parallel lives was gripping, as well as very well written and researched! I especially liked getting an insight into Greece after its war of independence from the Ottoman Empire. Something I knew next to nothing about, so add valuable information to the whole exciting package. Do you want a good 19th century adventure/action/historic romance, get this book!

BTW I enjoyed this book even more than your first one!

Thank you for your questions! I assume you are talking about Amazon reviews, @Old Salt. No, we are not notified. We have to look for them on Amazon, lol. Besides reviews, Amazon has "ratings," which means the consumer can just rate the product (click on the stars) and not leave a written review.

Thanks, Palides! We must have posted at the same time since I didn't see your answer when I first looked! I leave stars instead of reviews quite often because most romances (the books I read most often) are all in a mould:

One night stands with men who turn out to be the boss or who get the heroine pregnant, then there are childhood friends coming back into someone's life, then there are enemies turning into friends and finally fake relationships to appease a grandfather who holds the reigns of an important business. Oh, I forgot to mention the "taboo" subject of falling for a friend's sister! Why that should be taboo I will never understand! LOL They are mostly mindless fun and don't deserve a review.

I usually just write a review of a book I really like or really despise. I gave two stars to one last night because it was filled with soft porn (actually quite a bit stronger) and thoughts and language that deserved a good washing out with soap. At the expense of a story. And, no, I am not a prude. I realize that sex plays an important role in a relationship and don't usually object mentally. I confess though that I usually skip those passages because I am too old and bored to read them. No need to answer, I have taken up enough of your time! Just venting a bit! LOL
