Government Alert

My dog was woken up from her afternoon nap and came hurrying to see what's up! So it works.
I think this is a very good idea really. What does anyone else think?

I think it's a good idea. I don't know why some people are calling it an intrusion of privacy. I have 2 phones and the alert only sounded on one.Not sure why.

If there are Americans on here - do you have similar alerts on your mobiles? To let you know imminent threat to life or Safety?

We have several alerts that can come across our phones. All but one are optional on my android phone & can be turned off if you want. The only one that isn't optional is the National Alert & cannot be turned off.

The optional alerts are for weather or Amber alerts (missing people), etc.

Edit: Went into my phone & found these additional alerts (purpose) ~ Extreme threats (to life/property), Public safety messages (recommended actions to save lives/property), State & local tests (messages from authorities).

I turned off the notification.. I didn't know if I;d be taking a Sunday afternoon nap when it went off, so I turned it all off in advance. I was worried about people with dogs tbh..

According to the BBC website, the alerts will work only on iPhone 14.5 or newer. And devices running Android 11 or newer.

We do not get government alerts here in Ontario Canada but we do get Amber Alerts. Would you believe there are some people who complain about the Amber Alerts, kind of sad.

We also get the bad weather alerts.
The Amber Alert - I was in Ontario once when that happened. You’re right.

We can't turn it off until after you hear it and sometimes not even then, it just keeps going on and on.

Yep, get all of the above on my android.

You can still get it if you turn your phone off but if you turn it off in applications you won't,.. which is what I did...

IPhone users will need to go to their settings app and find the 'Notifications' section. Then you can scroll right down to the bottom of the menu that appears, to find to buttons that are labelled 'Extreme Alerts' and 'Severe Alerts'. Once these have been turned off, you will not receive any future alerts.

My text notification sound is the purge siren. I have gotten more laughs from people when it goes off than anything, but one woman was freaking out that it was a tornado warning.
