Any Scotch aficionados here? I hope so because I'm ready to explore. So far...I haven't gotten so far, just have been buying Cutty Sark, a blended Canadian Scotch. I like it, but all I know are the brands of spirits available at the local supermarket. A friend of ours at the fitness center is Scotish, I asked her and she gave me a list:
Oban, (mild)
Talisker, (strong)
Lagavulin, (very strong)
Glenkinchie (moderate)
Dalwhinnie (floral and sweet)
Cragganmore (moderate)
McCallan, moderate.
All single malts
Let's hear about your experiences and your preferences. ;)

Is there such a thing as Canadian Scotch? I thought legally for a whisky to be called Scotch it had do come from Scotland.

I wouldn’t say I’m an aficionado, but I find adding a bit of water to neat whisky can transform it.

The only single malts I’ve bought have been, Glenlivet, Glenmorangie, Glenfiddich, Talisker, Arran, Glen Moray, and Jameson. But Jameson isn’t a Scotch, because it’s Irish.

I tried scotch once. I barfed for an hour. Never again! But then, I've done the same on cheap wine and too much beer. And tequila. Vodka seems to be the only thing that agrees with me. (Sorry, I didn't mean to poop on your scotch party!)
@caroln , that's OK, Vodka is a great spirit, when I started having a nightly cocktail(after 13 years abstinence) Vodka & club soda + ice was my go-to drink. From there I learned to enjoy Barcardi's white Rum, reached into the past and re-united with Cutty Sark. Brandy and Tequila are fine spirits as well, I haven't had either in recent times though.

I could be persuaded to return to Scotch under the right conditions - my son who is 2 hrs away how lucky is that will be bringing me a 4 litre cask of muscat [fortified wine] only for serious connoisseurs trickled over ice?

I've never been a scotch fan, but I remember my parents telling me about going to dinner with one of my junior high school teachers and how she ordered a "Cutty on the Rocks". That made her so cool to me at the time. :ROFLMAO:

Vodka gimlet and Bloody Mary are my favs. I also like a Tia Maria and coffee! I also wouldn't turn down a brandy alexander.

*I want to look up the Tia Maria and Brandy Alexander, although I am a very light
drinker, still very much enjoy and occasional drink. Off I go to google now ;)
There's a lot of recipes on Google for making Tia Maria cocktails, but I just drink it straight. My recipe: A sip of Tia Maria, a sip of coffee...repeat until gone. It's a little luxury in my hum-drum life! (Some people put a shot of Tia Maria straight in their coffee.)
