What are you doing today 2023

I’m home a little after 1pm… got woke up at 0300 to see a patient— got about two extra hours of sleep after returning to office before the alarm went off. So it probably doesn’t take a genius to guess what I’m doing right now — tucked up in bed with a heating pad and getting ready to take the Power Nap of the year. 😴🥱😴

Cheers bud... you coulda told me you can do alterations, and saved me £15..squids, and a drive to 2 towns away to collect my top...:sneaky:...

It's a perfectly lovely sunny day, and I've spent the entire day in the garden. Yup. Since daylight.

Planted gomphrena seeds and bachelor buttons in pots.

Laid down what cardboard I had, gave it a good soaking and covered it with mulch. Still need lots more boxes and probably more mulch. There are 12 sacks of mulch left, and I'll get more boxes at work tomorrow.

In the places where the cardboard and mulch are going, I skimmed off the blue star creeper and replanted it in some other spots in the garden where I want paths between the beds.

Then I dug up the remains of the dead peach tree. What a chore! It had a very deep tap root, and I didn't get it all but did get the ligustrum planted and tree/shrub fertilizer spikes pounded in the ground.

And then (yes, there's more!)...cleaned out and weeded the space on my side of the house where there are gardenia bushes. Trimmed off the freeze-damaged limbs and laid down pine straw. I sure hope gardenias like acid soil because that's what they'll get from pine straw. The gardenias got the fertilizer spikes, too.

I'm tired and glad to go to work tomorrow so I can rest.
 
I went to the store on my mobility chair earlier. There was a black cloud over me and I figured it was going to rain. Rabbit needed more food so I kept going. Besides I have a poncho that covers the whole chair and me at the same time that I have never had to use. And an umbrella. I went in the store just as it started to sprinkle. When I came out it looked like it had poured. Puddles everywhere. Sky was blue and sun was shining. It sprinkled a little more when I first came out of the store but it stopped in a few minutes.

Now I am fixing supper. Chicken and broccoli.

Do the gomphrenas from seeds, germinate and grow quickly?
And do they flower then for you, in that same, first year?

I guess they must, or you wouldn't likely be putting them into pots. :oops::rolleyes::LOL::giggle:

Or perhaps you might start the seeds that way, and then, plant them out, as small seedlings?:unsure:

I love gomphrenas, but had only ever gotten them as small plants, to be transplanted into the garden. They then did grow and flower, very well, and easily. Cheerful outdoors there, and nice as a cut flower too, or even dried! I like their versatility!:geek:(y):LOL:

DH recognized them, in bouquets at the Farmers Market, last summer, and brought me some. ☺️

Gardenias are a plant that does not grow up North.
So I can give no advice on those! :LOL: But I have seen how beautiful they are, in Florida, many years ago.

The soil here in New England, is naturally very acidic. So acid-loving plants are generally happy without any help.
People often add lime, etc, for the rest of the plants. To tame the acidity for them! :geek:

@Kaila I planted some gomphrena seeds in the ground last week. The ones I planted in a pot today will be transplanted in the ground when they're big enough. The seed packet says 7-21 days until they germinate. We'll see. I've only ever got them as bedding plants before.

I have been a Mod in the past as well...on a pet forum that bit the dust many years ago. It is hard work and I swore I would never do it again. It killed my enjoyment of that particular forum. Never again. All forums need mods, it was just not for me
 
@Medusa I dunno if it was "fun" but it was relaxing. I solved world hunger, homelessness, brought peace to the world, healed the lame, etc... I do my best thinking in the garden.

@hollydolly You're right. Those trays and 50 lbs boxes are a little much when my muscles aren't sore! How come I'm not all fit and trim and stuff?
 
Drove my wife to her 6 mo. visit with her cardiologist. All seemed OK and he'll see her again in another 6 mo..

On the way home we swung by our 3rd daughter's home and had coffee with she and her husband.

Yesterday our other 2 daughters were at our house and we chatted with our son by phone. Haven't seen him in awhile as he's 90 miles away where he and his family share the wild and woolly state of Connecticut with our own RadishRose.;)

The so-called "disrespect of parents" doesn't exist in our little world.
