Cosy clean fiction

I have begun reading this genre, the so called 'cosy clean apocalypse ' stories.
I stumbled upon 'Havoc in Wyoming ' by Millie Copper and it is very engaging and good I must say. It is nice to know there will be no swearing, graphic violence or sex scenes. Just a good story all about a close warm family who had been preparing for a long time for the unfolding crisis the world is plunged into when terrorists attack America.

I am surprised at how much I am enjoying this series. Our world can be grim enough so this is escapism. Though also informative as I am learning a lot about "preppers''.
Is anyone else reading this and similar? I would welcome recommendations for other good books like this.

You had me with "close, warm family" but then lost me with "terrorists!" Even fictional senseless brutality bothers me deeply. Are there any books by Millie Cooper without violence? And is each book a stand alone in the series? I would happily give it a go!

It's not graphic violence at all. More the way a family and community copes with world events by taking care of each other. It is written by a Prepper, I find it is very good.

sorry Rose, but I don't think reading about Terrorism is escapism...

It sounds interesting and different from the usual books. I might give it a try.
 
My book club read "The Tattooist of Auschwitz," last month. Whew. A couple of the described scenes were so vivid and horrific they kept me awake all night. I was reading some of the over 100,000 reviews on Amazon. Most people loved it and gave it 5 stars, the ones who gave it 2 or 3 stars had issues with historic accuracy or the uneven tone of the book, others, like me, had trouble dealing with the horror of it all.

What interested me was that one reader gave it one star, for the use of bad language... which I hadn't even noticed. Some people are just very sensitive to that.

Rose, I think you'd be safe with most books written before about 1960. I love books written during the 1920's and 1930's, Edith Wharton or Henry James are favorites. Right now I'm reading "Giants in the Earth," online under Project Gutenberg. They have lots of great books that are out of print now.

Oh I love good literary novels, Henry James is a favourite as is Somerset Maugham. Sometimes I want a different sort of book.

It's about time to read though! I have 8 books to go in the Havoc in Wyoming series! I am so addicted I must read them all

I just looked up the definition of prepper! And learned that they stock food, other material, weapons and ammunition in anticipation of an upcoming disaster, invasion by a foreign power or a world wide catastrophe! What a depressing way to live! My opinion only!

Or just a 10 day power outage, which I HAVE been through and intend to remain prepared for another.

i do think that in these strange days of wars ; rumours of wars and uncertainties it is certainly prudent to be prepared and knowledgeable in living off the land. having your own vegie garden of course is good but having a stock of "long life products " that can sit on a shelf or in a below ground larder may be prudent. Any members able to provide a list of such non-perishables ?? and then an oil lamp or two may be useful - what am I thinking we have our own @Gary O' who may be willing to advise? - I am living close to Taiwan and the rest of those in the South China seas where things could blow up at anytime? - we need a 'survival kit' menu?
